Something hit me today. He just signed a 10-year contract and turns 56 next month. Something tells me this will be it, I don't see Mario coaching into his 70s ala Saban (although with what LeBrons doing, I guess nothing's really out of the question this day and age). Regardless, he's in the midst of leaving his legacy, and what a good one he has a chance to leave behind. It's obvious at this point he was the perfect man for the job 5 years ago...his combination of recruiting prowess, lifelong connection to the program and community, and first hand experience in how to run an elite college football program in the modern day is unmatched. As great of a speaker as he's always been, it's really gone up to another level since the CFP run. In his own words, now there's proof of concept, i.e. justification for all the money being spent and everything he's sold recruits and boosters on over the last few years. I knew he'd be scary on the trail after closing out the season that way, but he's even surpassing those expectations (five 5-stars already committed for next year's class 
).
All this to say, we should all be extremely grateful and appreciative to have Mario running the team for the next decade, which as I've learned in getting older, will be gone before you know it. I don't know how many stories like this there have been in college football...if he does what I'm sure he's set out to do (bring us back to the dynasty he knew like he's on the verge of doing), you almost couldn't write it any better if you tried.
