Mario Cristobal interview

See I get when u guys say this I get it and I understand. But but but.......just like in the NFL when your roster is sort of ok u can lose games to teams with inferior talent on paper. U can play a 4-12 team and your OL can't block this 4-12 squad which affects the outcome of a game. This is why it's been tough for us having weaker fronts some teams like UNC can run all day on us and we can take an L. No pass rush vs FSU and their trash QB wins the game.

This is why I can't wait for the roster turn over when the elites come. Cause it will rarely happen when we stack on fronts. We will clean up ACC comp easily. Big game hunting fellas watch n witness it.
Trenches always separate the good from the elite teams. Lots of teams have good QBs but when your OL is getting punched in the face he can't do much. You can have 5 Star DBs but when your front 7 is getting smacked around and the other team is rushing for 8 yards a clip it doesn't mean much. Until we get our trenches right we won't be a upper echelon team. Luckily we will have an elite OL class this year

That’s coaching and development. They can be elite but if the coaches don’t put them in the right system and position to succeed they will lose no matter how much better they are than the comp (2002-2005 teams). Shoot most regress when they get here. And when they start to, they are not motivated and punished for it so it becomes okay for them to be mediocre. These new coaches ain’t with that BS! Most humans need outside motivation. Sheep need to be herded and so do humans. Without a good shepherd they do their own thing and they get lost and get ate up by the wolves (who always have an alpha leader).

I already appreciated Mario for what he is doing for the Canes. But as a Steelers fan hearing Mario say that when he was praying in church as a little kid that he was praying for the Steelers to win, is basically a bow on top of the present.
So when Tomlin retires in 8 years and Mario has won 2 NC’s by then at UM, maybe Mario takes the Steelers job??

Also, I had NO IDEA Mario dealt w/ all of that at FIU. Now, I’m looking at what he did as even more impressive than what he did at UO. The record may be sub .500, but that context added a whole new layer of understanding
I don’t think people realize how difficult that was. The last thing anyone ever thought when you said fiu was a football team.

I kind of agree but most of the time the guys we target in the past OSU bama UGA ain't fighting tooth and nail for and there is a reason for that.

Lot of good stuff here, he compared the roster when he got here to the same as when he arrived at Oregon and they were coming off a 4-8 season

Weren’t they 7-6 the year before Mario took over, and 9-4 bud 1st year?

Think he is referencing 4-8 when "we" arrived, meaning when he arrived on staff with Taggart. They won 7 in Taggart's lone year before Mario took over.
