being at both games, zero reason to make a mistake vs ND, we controlled the game, rain, wet field, needed the win.In today’s college football optics matter… you need to keep the gas on till the end.
Not beating ND by double digits still optically ****ed us in it allowed it to be seen as a “quality loss” you aren’t guaranteed the same roster next year play the dudes you have and dominate from start to finish. Same with FSU we got conservative and it became close for absolutely no reason at the end
We didn’t blow out SMU because we were doing the same game plan… phone booth offense. Bleed the clockbeing at both games, zero reason to make a mistake vs ND, we controlled the game, rain, wet field, needed the win.
VS FSU, they never had a chance, we let them eat clock and take 8 minutes to score, wish we scored more but some dumb penalties killed drives in 4th. to me those games are fine, if you beat SMU, even with a loss to UL, bad night.
need to blow out teams like SMU, just keep scoring
we threw 38 passes, came out throwing, when it wasn't leading to points and the big jojo int, we seemed to go in a shell late.We didn’t blow out SMU because we were doing the same game plan… phone booth offense. Bleed the clock
Agreed but there wasn’t any creativity to force matchups like we have on this 4 game win streakwe threw 38 passes, came out throwing, when it wasn't leading to points and the big jojo int, we seemed to go in a shell late.
fletcher went down on a drive that was going well and then we couldn't run.
and of course, penalty, penalty, penalty.
Beyond Beck playing much, much better I think this was the biggest difference in how Dawson called the last third of the season.Agreed but there wasn’t any creativity to force matchups like we have on this 4 game win streak
I absolutely love seeing Toney in motion, in the back field causing a match up with a LB… **** I even loved when we motioned out Fletch to help out on the tunnel screen to spring Marion for the 1st down.. 9/10 times Bauman or Lofton blow that blocking assignment. Stuff like that keeps defenses honest and not allow teams to simply run fire blitz with loaded boxes
idk what happened but I’m glad whoever was the voice of reason finally was able to control the room to help the offense open upBeyond Beck playing much, much better I think this was the biggest difference in how Dawson called the last third of the season.
Earlier in the year he'd basically say "I react to what the defense does, if they have a light box I will run, if they have a heavy box I will throw. And I'm happy to do that." I think he seized control back by being much more creative with formations and motion, while often running similar plays out of them.
Dawson also did a great job of breaking tendacies we threw the ball in downs and distances that had become way too run heavy, and threw the ball out of some formations and motions that we almost exclusively had run out of
Hey if we get blamed for losses, we deserve a little love as well.i dont think it was just that blow up.
i believe that the fandom pressing the reporters who then pressed Mario and Dawson (both of which got snippy and were defensive) and the fans booing after the first drive v Stanford also were factors.
