Mario Cristobal and the Myth of Power Football

Can someone remind Mario of the TEMPO, inside and OUTSIDE, and Versatility?

I'm so impressed by the quantity and quality of pent-up football wisdom that's spewed forth since last Friday. Too many of you kept your light under a bushel!
Most of us just wanted to keep winning, and didn't want to down talk our coach while we were doing so. Mario has coaching warts, and the makeup is coming off. He needs to have the darned things removed already. Learn how and when to use timeouts. Learn to attack all parts of the field. Keeping teams off balance is the best way to impose your will. Not simply running into a pack of people and pushing the pile forward. Not hoping to hit a few deep balls because the D is up stopping the run. Mix it up. Keeps teams guessing.

My pitch to Mario re: not always burning the clock is you get to hit people in the mouth and wear them down the more plays you run.

What they also need to do though is trust the backups on defense because they are also trying to save Bain et. al from snaps, but they shouldn't need elite DEs in every snap to make it through an ACC schedule.

He went 12-2, won the PAC 12 then won the Rose Bowl the year that article came out.

Fair enough. We're all fans here.

That article was written six years ago. Its contents are as informative now as they were six weeks ago. My negative reaction to this thread is based on a desire to not be a prisoner of the moment- and not to put too much stock in 20/20 hindsight.

To be specific: the loss vs. Louisville isn't some vindication of the critiques of Cristobal's offensive philosophy. Unforced penalties (mostly on the OL) were the drive-killers. Who among Mario's critics had "OL deficiency" on their bingo card six years ago?

Reading these boards is like watching football with a woman.

"Why do they run it right in to the middle of the pile? They should run around it." - every football watching wife ever.

Undisciplined and penalty laden? Yep, that's on the bingo card and a staple of Mario Cristobal teams.
