As a head coach, is that he finds a really offensive coordinator and give him complete control of the offense (scheme, play calling, and game management), and Mario himself only focuses on recruiting and coaching the offensive line. Pretty much being a glorified recruiter and offensive line coach now.

We passed that two years ago ...

Did this feel good when you hit send?

People are confusing what is happening here.
Mario is giving OCs complete control of the scheme.
But he’s only hiring OCs that want to run this style of play.

Look at the names that were being discussed in the OC search thread that is now locked.

The only name I thought that had the potential to do anything was Clemson’s ex OC Streeter, and I didn’t feel confident about him.

I said over and over again in that thread that every OC being mentioned is horrible, and all are going to run the exact same type of offense.

And that’s not a coincidence. They were all the finalists because they are running what Mario wants to run. He’s not bending them to his will. He’s only choosing amongst candidates that are Mario Juniors.

Someone like Charlie Weis Jr. will never be a candidate under Mario.

Isn’t this what everyone said around 2022-2023ish?

Yep.
Then the OC candidates were Candle, Cooley, Streeter, and Dawson.

Mario wouldn’t have had to force a single one of those guys to run Mario’s offense. They were already running it.

That’s why none of them have had any offensive success.

The year Dawson was hired, Candle was acknowledged as being Mario’s guy again. It was his job to lose.

In 2022 Toledo’s offense finished 80th in F+
‘23 it was 67.
‘24 it was 101
‘25 it’s 87.

This has been Mario’s top guy in each OC hiring cycle.

Mario wouldn’t have to force Candle to do anything to have a ****** offense. Candle is already bringing it with him. That’s why Mario wants him. That’s why Dawson was hired.
