Marcus Freeman new ND coach

Freeman might be the next coaching superstar. Young, black, energetic, top recruiter.. but can he run a major program with no experience? He's a high risk/high reward candidate.

A lot of pressure on Freeman...Got lambasted in a thread I started last December suggesting Swarbrick may get rid of Kelly and get Urban Meyer while still available (Jags hired him in January). Too bad he wasn't as smart as I thought he was...If Freeman does great out the gate, it may work out, but if he falters and Swarbrick has to re-negotiate his soon expiring NBC TV deal in a position of weakness, he may be out of a job for Blake'ing it up.

Man Notre Dame has really fallen. First they get their coach stolen and then they hire their coordinator to save money I presume without even doing a proper search? Why are they only spending 2-3 million a year on a coach? Bizarre

I agree from the outside looking in it seems as a improper search.

But if their AD and football brass been close enough to the progrum and feel Freeman is cut out for it. You rake up cash as a school and cheap out if it doesn’t workout. and you have the cash to land your top candidate .

I respect they aren’t over paying out of desperation.

It all depends on who he hires.

If he gets a big time oc and let’s him do his thing, all he has to do is sell players and it seems he is good at it.

He needs to have the humility to know he needs help. Get some seasoned guys with assistant head coach level credentials.

I have never seen him, but he could be a rock star in the making if he has a magnetic personality.

He will fail fast if he has smartest guy in the room syndrome.

He does have a rep of being an ******* and he is not a big recruiting guy. That’s the word from ND fans.

He’s gonna implode at lsu.
Florida recruited in the Top 10 and they had Mullen who didn't even try to recruit.

LSU logo is going to hold weight.

as a panthers fan who is upset with Rhule I was kinda hoping they would take him off our hands
Carolinans are a ****ed up group of people.

That's what I've determined after supporting the Panthers for 20 years.

It holds weight for certain. He’s still going to have to try.

As to the gaytor, Mullet took a bunch of non-qualifiers (plus some guys who were gone immediately like Chris Steele, Jalon Jones, Williams who came to UM) each year which pumped up his ranking as high as #9 but if you took the lost players out - his real ranking is back teens. That’s horrible at Florida.

They are only talking to Freeman to keep him from going to LSU with Kelly. Fans and players like Freeman so there is that. Plus, he is an up and comer and an excellent recruiter. No experience may hurt his chances. I have to believe Fickel will be talked to.

Good recruiter??? Have they ever got a 4 star defensive player? Never went against the big boys. He must be a great evaluater though.

A DC gets his first HC gig at a huge school. Why does that story seem eerily familiar?!?!

Not sure you can use that logic just because Diaz cucked Flake into giving him the job.

Manny's soft AF. Lincoln Riley, Kirby Smart, and Ryan Day have all been assistants promoted to major jobs in the last few years, and each one of those guys is a killer. And Freeman is a killer.

Their defensive (and, overall) class this coming year is very good, and the 2023 class already has 6 commits in the Top 100.

Honestly, even though Kelly was considered a "lazy" recruiter, I'm envious of their last 3-4 classes. Loaded on DL/OL, and very well-rounded. They've built from the trenches out and always get guys at each position, something Miami hasn't done under Diaz's tenure.
