Marcus Freeman new ND coach

AD’s often times are alumni fwiw. I just think listening to 18-21 year olds emotional pleas is bad for business.

Ask Miami.

I don't care whether you went to Miami or not. But if you did, I want to know what you've done since.

And I still love L A M P.

If I were him I’d kick the tires on Gary Patterson to be his DC. Similar defense, could set Patterson up for a possible HC opportunity later. It’s a long shot but if he’s keeping Reese as his OC he needs a coaching vet to help him steer the ship.

I can't get over how dumb of a move this is

Freeman was fickell's defensive coordinator. Fickell just went 12-0 and has Cincy in the college football playoff

if fickell wanted it and they wouldn't wait for him then ND is run by idiots

If lame actually told them he’d take the job but they have to let him coach the playoff and they refused just to hire his former dc who’s greener than the Amazon then they’re freakin dumb. That’s shortsighted as **** probably just to save a recruiting class. And freeman may have stayed on anyways

Freeman might be the next coaching superstar. Young, black, energetic, top recruiter.. but can he run a major program with no experience? He's a high risk/high reward candidate.

Going the Miami route… let’s hire our own DC as HC. Difference is they didn’t pay $4M to anybody. In any case hope it works out the same way it did for us…😉

Not sure if he’s ready to be a head coach so soon but he’s a **** of a coach.
Well we about to see. As a brotha, I’m always happy to see a brotha get a shot at a big school. For him, I hope they give him a fair shot. But yeah… Fucc ND! Forever and ever, Amen.

Great hire and great for that brother! Hopefully Miami will be smart and make a similar choice then maybe some of these privileged ****'s will go find another team to ***** and complain about.

It’s a good move for them. It may not work out, but he seems like a good guy, a good coach, and a good fit to keep that program rolling. And possibly recruit the Top 25 players Kelly never seemed to get.

Good old Gerry Faust.

I bear no ill will toward Freeman, but maybe this hire will turn out as well as that one did.
Freeman may prove to be good HC. He doesn’t have to rebuild ND, to his benefit. He was looking to interview at Duke, or so I read. Talk about a career killer!

Well, he was offered $2.5M to be associate head coach and DC at LSU. That's demand. If you don't think he could have gotten P5 jobs I am not sure what to say.

You need a list of top coordinators that made a jump to a national championship contending program as a HC? How about everybody's favorite coach this week, Lincoln Riley? Same exact thing. In his 30s, OU. Kirby Smart, who has UGA #1 as I type this too. No HC experience. Right to UGA. So literally the hottest coach in America and the HC of the #1 team. Same for both. Dabo was promoted from assistant at Clemson (he wasn't even a coordinator iirc) to the big job. He won it all. So that's maybe 3 of the 4 top guys (Saban) who fit the bill.

There is a reason you can't just look at a piece of paper/resume and make a hire. Or being an AD would be easy. This guy has been crushing it everywhere, has a HC temperament, and was going to get a big gig within the next 24 months for sure.
Preach preach! These ****'s don't want to hear facts. Their to busy trying to quickly tear these guys down when they earn quality coaching jobs or quality Administrator jobs.

The jealousy and hate is real.

The other question is:

Has Notre Shame ever promoted an assistant coach to head coach before?

And the answer is…wait for it…

Bob Davie.

Marcus Freeman is a great young coach and recruiter, and Notre Dame also retained offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, the former ND QB under Kelly from 2010-13.

There seems to be some continuity, but we will know more next season. In the meantime, Canes need to make a HC hire pronto!
