Those were the exact thoughts on Radio by many at the time of his disastrous hire.
 
I had read yesterday that he might have a shot at the job, apparently Kelly was trying to lure him to LSU. I guess this was the domers response to that.

I hope things work out better for him than Tyrone. And by that I don’t mean I want Notre Dame to do well, but when they inevitably fire him, I hope he has much greater success somewhere else.

I don’t know that much about the inner workings of Notre Dame, but I get a sense they have a good old boys club there. Maybe I’m wrong, I mean I don’t spend a whole lot of time reading up on them.
 
This reeks of a Coker-like situation where the players were pulling for a top assistant when the Head Coach abruptly bailed. Freeman has been a great DC, but this is a ridiculous gamble for an institution that could attract a more established and successful Coach.

Yes, every article was talking about how much Kelly wanted Freeman to join him in Baton Rouge. I guess this was ND's F you to Kelly....however, I think they are cutting their nose off to spite their face. They could have gotten a much more proven guy.

No idea but kelly was really pushing him to be DC at lsu - was prepared to make him the highest paid DC in cFB

I know they wanted to keep both Rees and Freeman. I would guess Rees got a nice pay raise also.
