Manolo gets the bigger picture with the OL

this is an excerpt of his interview this morning on wqam
"We look at it, I will say this for those tackles, and again they weren’t giving out any trophies after Saturday night: Those guys, they went through some adverse conditions and blocked some really good players. They’re only going to get better. We can sit there and shake our head at those guys, or say look at all those plays where you’re doing a pretty **** good job. … at some point we’re going to play someone and not have a freshman quarterback, freshman tackle, freshman tackle. Those guys will be sophomores and juniors. "

We're not into moral victories, i get it, but we went toe to toe with an SEC opponent with this lineup.

LT; true frosh
LG; true junior
C; redsht. soph
RG; true soph
RT; redsht. frosh
QB; redsht. frosh
TE; true soph

they won't always be this young and now that we're a few days removed hopefully everyone will see what we're trying to build and that we almost beat florida with that lineup
and they had to face three starting SR's and JR, with a depth chart full of JR's and SR's as well.
The entire Starting gators defense has three soph's on it. The veteran d-line ripped our oline a new one, but if you take away the one big pass play, we beat them everywhere on the score board besides the damned score.....and it was literally a series of 5 plays starting with the misseg FG, that made the difference in the game.

you can break down the whole damned game, but those 5 plays secured the win for UF. I mean you can go back one more to the JT dropped pass or two before that when JW threw the ball behind Mallory, both were probably TD's

Im excited about our season!!

Not counting any 1AA games they may have, they obviously will not have another 10 sack game this year.

Our OL problems can't be cleaned up because the Oline is horrible. They won't look any worse than they did on Saturday because that's the best DL we'll see all season, but they won't become good.
I agree with you. I doubt the line gets much better throughout the season and I have the rare opinion that UF dline is not that great. I believe J Williams is going to be under pressure all season due to this line. But you can't tell the fan base to look at how well the tackles did after everyone seen them get destroyed. That's all I'm saying. I believe we win most of our games but it won't be because of great oline play. Just my opinion.

I think Manny has made a point several times that he’s trying to use positive reinforcement in his staff’s teaching methods.

He didn’t like the way Searels beat them up and constantly told them what they can’t do. He prefers a positive approach, and that’s one of the things he likes about Barry. So I’m sure they realize we got our asses obliterated up front, but he’d prefer to build on positive stuff rather than go in the tank and blow everything and everyone up.

Maybe if he doesn’t overreact and act like it’s the end of the world then the team will stay up and not wilt like we have every year for the last 20 after a loss.

The Oline issue can't be fixed.... I feel you can't get bigger/stronger during the season. So if this is the best we have so be it. We can however call better plays, teach the QB to get rid of the ball, and call different formations to give the tackles help. It is now up to Enos.
So it can't be fixed because YOU don't think so? Ok.

He did say what OP posted, but after listening to interview, I didn’t feel he was making any excuses.

Ah, Chapter 7 of the Al Golden playbook.

Push the youth angle and use it to buy yourself time and lower expectations. Gets people off your back, gives you a few years to keep saying “just you wait until we have upperclassmen at x positions” as if all good teams are starting 22 seniors.
How about YOU take the job and show us all how it's done then?

At least half the sacks were on Jarren. Maybe 6 out of the 10 IMO. Classic point was the first sack in the redzone. He knew it was man with a blitz coming from somewhere. He went to throw it, double pumped, and took the sack. Have to let it go the first time. I think he thought to himself that he would rather take the sack than risk a possible turnover. Not the best, but hopefully he can start to throw the ball away. 2nd & 10 is much better than 2nd & 18

He also missed some checkdowns that were there right in front of him. Not all of the throwaways needed to be incompletions. Some of them even could have been big plays instead of sacks.

This is what you get with a first time starter at QB who has only known his OC/QB coach for a couple of months and only became QB1 two weeks ago. He doesn't have that internal clock in his head calibrated properly to the offense yet. He needs to look for his primary read for one beat, then secondary beat two, then on beat three it's checkdown and either run or throw it away. On Saturday night, he was constantly still looking down field when he should have been hitting the checkdown.

I'm sorry, but I just did not see what all those "sky is falling" people saw on Saturday night. Yes, it's on the coaches to get the players ready to play, and in some respects it wasn't good enough. But you can't expect a finished product in game one with such a young team and an entirely new offensive staff. Add to that the fact that this team never quit, had each other's backs, absolutely ******* HATED to lose that game and is determined to get better from it. I'm optimistic at what I saw. I expect to see a MUCH better performance in two weeks.

Being positive will not make them stop sucking. But beating them up won't make them stop sucking either. So whatever.

I don't care how you slice it, there is nothing optimistic about giving up 10 sacks. I'm sorry. I can't take anything positive from that. At the end of the year let's see how many other 10 sack performances the gators put up. This is just my opinion but I would feel a lot better if coach just said it was not acceptable and we will get it cleaned up.
Most likely, not many. They also won't be able to say they lined up against a team starting 2 freshman tackles making their first start.

That's not an excuse, that's just the cards we're deal. Now it's a question of how we play the hand. Do you expect Manny to just give up and fold?

I’m not happy with Manny’s response to losing. Very not-savage. We should have curbed stomped that team. Apart from 2 Offensive Tackles, we were the superior team in every department. And they gave us multiple opportunities to win.

F*ck bowing down to the SEC. Turn of the Disney-ESPN Channel. We have PLENTY of talent and more than enough to beat an inferior in-state rival. They lost to Samford
What do you expect him to say? These kids suck and are not Miami material!

I have more respect for him taking the hit rather than throwing them under the bus. As defensive coordinator, Manny has a history of making adjustments. Now he has to demonstrate the ability as head coach. Let's see how they play against UNC before you take up a collection to start flying the banners.

Some of the sacks where due to Penos having to take away motion/cadences which allowed the defense to correctly guess the snap/clap. Why did he take those away? Because we were having so many procedural and false start penalties in the first half. So he dumbed down the offense and it allowed the Gator to cheat their CBs up and get pressure with just their front 4.

I posted since actually listening to the interview

Of course they not getting 10 sacks against another team, that's the point. They shouldn't have gotten them against us is what I'm saying. It's unacceptable. Not saying it can't be fixed, although I don't think the oline can be fixed. They can do a better job of accounting for the youth and inexperience. They didn't. You can't say "well they are freshmen going against seniors and they will be great in two years". They gone be freshmen against UNC and the rest of the ACC. A lot of people, including myself, thought the freshmen tackles could be a huge problem but a lot of us trusted the coaches would come up with something. What happened was they gave up an astronomical amount of sacks. I just believe that part of the game was unacceptable and coaches should have took more responsibility for that.

“The coaches know best bro they’re always right” — this has definitely worked for 18 straight years why stop using this old line now?
Well then take the job like I said and show us all how it's done. Don't be a fan later.
