Because you cannot give up over 500 yards rushing and almost 800 yards of offense and survive. We gave up a ton of yards and points against Louisville who turned around and got embarrassed by Pitt the next week. This was an easy decision and Diaz blew it. What value or purpose does Baker serve? Our standing linebacker play? That alone should get you fired. I don't want this guy scheming a practice let alone a gameplan. This is insane.I think people are confusing disappointment with the lack of a splash hire with thinking this move (or lack of it) is the key to winning or losing more games. In 2019, the defense was #23 in points allowed. Yup, top 25. We went 6-7. In 2020, the D was #51, but we finished 8-3. Why? Because the offense was ranked #90 in 2019 and #26 in 2020. If Miami has a top 10 offense we win 10 games and it doesn't matter whether Manny Diaz, Charlie Strong, or Brent Venables is calling plays. People are getting bent out of shape about the wrong things.
There's no defending that move on a professional level, especially in CFB where hundreds of coaches change jobs every yearHe’s worthless & adds no value to the team, there’s no reason for him to be here.
Can’t recruit, can’t coach, can’t develop his unit & can’t call plays, he’s a big fckin ZERO.
Baker should have, not Banda.
He was doing his own thing because he wanted to take over play calling & Diaz didn’t want to ruffle feathers between him & baker because Banda & Bake didn’t get along. Ed Reed not liking him is irrelevant, former Hurricanes always hate our position coaches, because most of them resent guys they feel don’t deserve to be in a spot that they'd rather see one of their former teammates being in. Most former Canes were Rumph loyalists so of course they made Banda a scapegoat, but this picture of him as this bad coach is nothing but propaganda.
I guarantee you Banda will be a better DC than Baker was at both LA Tech & Miami.
Blake Anderson comes from the Rocky Long coaching tree, the same Coaching tree that has produced 3 of the best Defensive coaches in the business in guys like Danny Gonzales, Zach Arnett & Brady Hoke, he would’t have hired Banda as his DC if he was as bad as people on the board swear he is.
The anti Banda crowd really doesn’t have a leg to stand on when Baker gets stripped of his play calling duties & Rumph gets relegated down to a desk job in the recruiting department, if those two guys were worth a ****, some SEC team would’ve already knocked down the door to hire them both.

There’s no excuse for Banda calling a different defense for the secondary than what was called for the front 6/7. It doesn’t matter what the **** he liked or disliked. That’s some bush league ****. He left our kids out to dry.
You can run with the Banda vs Baker stuff. It’s irrelevant to me. It actually doesn’t make any logical sense whatsoever. Both our sub par coaches. Again. Both are sub par coaches. Neither one of them should have ever been hired to work at the university of Miami. Neither one of them. Baker, doesn’t deserve to be at Miami. And Banda didn’t deserve to coach at Miami. He wasn’t a good Safety coach.
We didn’t do ONE thing consistently well at Safety all year. That’s why the GOAT didn’t like him. We weren’t even solid with our fundamentals at Safety. But.. somehow Anderson saw a great DC mind in a Banda. Diaz promoted him to (Anderson) that gig instead of just letting him go.
The entire Def Staff should have been gutted. I don’t give a **** about this Baker vs Banda ****. Both are trash.
that is exactly what I think. Buys him another year if **** falls through.Manny with another political move. Now when the D doesn't do well, he'll say, "I just need a dedicated DC." UM will give him a ton of money to get one, and it buys Manny another year. When will it ever end?
I honestly don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Two years is too long!Welp this is his *** going into next year , I’m cool either way. He’s going out on his terms, so he better win next year. If not he’ll have two years left on his deal after the season with no extension =“ dead man walking”. This is a win win in my book.
At least noone who would take the job or wasn’t more qualified than Manny and/or a better DC who would walk over ManueloIt boils down to who was available
Nobody AVAILABLE was better than Manny calling plays. Idk how ppl could be mad right now
Who was more qualified? I'm not even a huge Manny fan I'm just rational which most are missing hereAt least noone who would take the job or wasn’t more qualified than Manny and/or a better DC who would walk over Manuelo
Some people always fail up. And I thought we got rid of Richt’s kid but I guess we took on Manny’s ******* sonI heard from somebody pretty reliable he got a raise lol.
Muschamp or Charlie strong. One should be hereWho was more qualified? I'm not even a huge Manny fan I'm just rational which most are missing here
He was a too 5 DC in the nation here. No DC better than Manny was available. That's fact not opinionated.
You can't name one person
I read what Diaz was quoted as saying. Baker remains the DC and Diaz will call plays. Which essentially means Baker will develop the gameplan. As HC, Diaz does not have time to do it. We looked lost and unprepared in 7 of our 11 games this year from the first snap. I don't want this guy teaching how to wrap an ankle let alone teach our linebackers. The linebacker play was beyond awful.Did you miss the part where Baker got stripped of playcalling duties? Hes not the primary DC anymore. And we added the one of the best DB coaches and a top tier DL coaches. DC, DL, CB, and DB coaches will all be new personnel. So you are mad that Diaz has an overpaid LB coach now. OK. Id like a better LB coach too, but on the list of problems with the team, thats not high up on my list. I'm underwhelmed but as I said before, offense matters a whole lot more. If you are mad that Diaz is betting on himself as DC, then lucky for you its an experiment that will only last a year. Either it works or he gets fired. And isn't the latter what most people want anyways?
We all due respect I somewhat disagree. If this doesn’t work out the excuse is that he just needs a dedicated DC. Buy CMD another year or so. With Blake James as AD do we really know what in the administration minds?Welp this is his *** going into next year , I’m cool either way. He’s going out on his terms, so he better win next year. If not he’ll have two years left on his deal after the season with no extension =“ dead man walking”. This is a win win in my book.
I STRONGLY disagree that either of those are better than MannyMuschamp or Charlie strong. One should be here
Are We here to win the ACC and possibly more or help to careers and to allow coaches to save face?Exactly. Most of those titles are window dressing to justify the salary.
Baker keeps the DC title on paper but essentially is a position coach. Manny wasn't going to cut him loose or publicly humiliate him. Keeping that title may also help him find another job....
Simpson is now the Assistant HC as well as DL. Helps give him a decent salary and hopefully, more input in defensive game plans.
TRob will coach the entire secondary and DVD will learn from him. DVD gets a title, bigger salary and the ability to go out of the office to recruit.
Hopefully TRob also gets some input into the game plan.
Patke is along for the ride
Rumph is keeping a job adn paycheck until something pops for him elsewhere. Clearly Ed and maybe other alumni looking out for him. I doubt he's going to actually do much "recruiting".
Manny put all his chips on himself. I am hoping that whatever "tweaks" they put into the defense will be enough......
Banda did what now? There’s no excuse for Banda calling a different defense for the secondary than what was called for the front 6/7. It doesn’t matter what the **** he liked or disliked. That’s some bush league ****. He left our kids out to dry.

Well normally I don’t argue with opinions but yours is wrong. Muschamp as a DC at Auburn and then his Florida defenses were dominant. None of Manny’s defenses compare. Also he did it in the SECI STRONGLY disagree that either of those are better than Manny
The school and athletic department has plenty, as do the trustees who care about football. I’m sure one of them would have been happy to contribute to the school to lower their tax bill from last year’s market rally. Of course, they wouldn’t know because Manny did not interview anyone and did not want to give up his system. To me, this reeks of another in a long line of stubborn, under qualified coaches with smartest guy in the room syndrome. To me this reeks of money.
We took a giant financial hit with Covid and that wasn’t the money to fire a $500,000 coach and bring in another one at $1-1.5 million.
From day one I’ve said the school finally has plenty of money to pay top coaches. But I think this season is the exception.
