Manny will be HC until season over

I mean there are other names but what I see coming is mostly attributed to the fact that Mario is gonna be in the playoff. You're not getting a final answer until Jan 1 if he loses in the 1st round. January 11 if he was able to win in the 1st round.

We're gonna completely miss ESD and drag this into January. Everyone else will be finalizing their search or be done with it. A lot of coaches don't want to move that late because they miss ESD and miss other assistants that are already moving to other jobs that were filled.

Drag it to January 1, Mario drags it out a couple days and ultimately says no.. it's Jan 5th and you don't have a HC and start from scratch. A couple guys already have raises from their schools, etc. Not a good situation.

I agree the timing with Mario is tricky. I don't think he wants to deal with any potential distractions but that doesn't mean back channel talks are not happening.

I think if they wait on Mario it is because there are some assurances he is interested and I think they are prepared to open the checkbook. Otherwise, you don't want to wait for the reasons you suggest.

I could be wrong but I’d have to imagine if he doesn’t give Miami a firm no before then he’s probably coming.

Entirely possible. The timeline of him making the playoff may play into our favor with his buyout going down and giving us time to find an AD and make all of those changes beforehand. Lay the foundation that says were serious now.

The downside is ESD and the assistant pool of coaches that are gonna be going to be getting hired away to places like LSU and USC and whoever else makes a change at HC that is ahead of us. Similar to Diaz and the sorry staff he hired when he first got here because you couldn't find anyone that wanted to move that late.

Going to the playoff gives Mario a lot of time to change his mind and if they play Alabama or Georgia close he's gonna be thinking how close he is and why would he leave. A lot of time to have a change of heart and decide to stick it out there instead undergoing a complete culture change at Miami.

Mario is going to Utah this week and would probably have to play them in the title game too. I don't even want him but I don't think your worst case of him making the playoff is gonna happen.

i´ve been saying this for a while, what if Mario wins one or two games in the playoffs? Very difficult for him to leave Oregon after winning in the playoffs or winning it all. It would be unprecedented and perhaps foolish

That’s definitely true. Seems like recruiting is going to be a wash regardless. I’d imagine Mario could probably still get a decent staff though. He’s a pretty big name and if the administration is serious and is willing to pay I’d be surprised if his staff wasn’t pretty good. Best case scenario he loses to Utah in the regular season and wins the PAC-12 title in the title game. Then we should know by mid December what the deal is.

Class is f'd regardless. This is the least of the issues. Whoever it is will hit the portal hard for plug and play guys in a transition year. Just look at what Michigan State did to transform that team and we would not even need as many guys. We have good returning talent. If we can keep some of those from defecting we will be fine.
Sarcasm brother. Sarcasm.
