It’s interesting that Richt played here and was a part of the dynasty at the beginning, yet, he truly didn’t get it or want us to embrace “Miami” and who “the U” is. Manny grew up here and a fan of the program but went to FSU and gets the persona of the city and the program. Manny knows the city and culture and is embracing it.
Manny knows UM is at its peak when we’re winning and and everyone hates us.

Howard brought in fans (I think he called them Hurricane Hunters) and asked them their thoughts for building the program. My dad said he was part of the group and they discussed keeping the South Florida talent home. I guess the State of Miami came somewhat out of those discussions. Jimmy used Miami Vice. It looks like Manny is trying to reconnect Miami to the program, and if successful we should see good times again.

Sad the NCAA does not recognize having old style UM football is actually good for the game. Many of our games were the most watched games in college football because everyone wanted to see us lose. We just didn't very often and it was great.

I think it's also easier to see what somebody else is doing wrong and fix it than to fix your own sht. al (to a degree) fixed recruiting. Richt (re)fixed recruiting and got a DC who would play to our strengths. Manny is fixing the attitude, and hopefully the offensive side of the ball.

Just saying Richt was in the middle of it and feeling defensive about all the criticism so it was hard for him to see what to change or even admit a change was needed. Manny could sit back, watch, and plan what he would do if given the chance. And we're starting to see what he came up with.

Richt was in retirement mode.

It is, what it is.
That terrible season we had was necessary last year, otherwise we wouldn’t be where we are at this very moment in terms of the trajectory of our program and how I and I’m sure all of us feel about things right now.

Richt is extremely religious and leads his programs by the book. Miami is better off that he walked away when he did. He was sucking the life out of this program. The same thing he did at a Georgia.

His faith had nothing to do with it. He improved the fundamentals of the program. He improved recruiting. What he didn't change for the better was the offense.

When we were 10-0 in 2017, there was a heck of a lot of life in the program. It was his antiquated offense and desire to stick with it that sucked the life out of the program this year.

Richt is very very very religious and a good man which is great but isn't what we needed. I'm not going to **** on him for that but I will acknowledge not many could or would think or act like Manny is now because true Miami people are the only ones who get it

Attila the Hun wasn't a preacher - nor Alexander the Great, or others - The Black Prince, Genghis Khan, Scipio, Leonidas, or Vlad the Impaler.

Manny has that "Take no Prisoners," or "Fly the Black Banner" mentality.

Which makes him a good man, in my book.

Essentially so far (yes I know win on field)

Goatee Richt got it, although we would always be hamstrung by his nepotism.. Something happened after he lost his **** in first Wisconsin game. And many have thought there were some hidden health problems there as well

Just complete utter waste of talent last year. We had our most talented offense since the early 2000s yet you wouldn’t know it by the way the offense played the whole seasons. Never seen a coach saquander as much talent on offense as richt did. But regardless I still for sure respect what richt has done for the program, that 10 game win ride and #2 ranking in the playoffs up until the last regular season game and being ranked top 10 **** near all season was the highest I had seen the program in a long time. In addition to that recruiting some great players the last couple of cycles, the ipf and bringing manny to Miami. It wasn’t all bad but it was needed and most importantly the way he walked away was admirable. He always said if he didn’t feel like he couldn’t do this job good enough that he would walk away and he did without breaking Miami financially at all.

I thank Mark for getting us a IPF but the differences in perception and plan of attack of the 2 staffs couldn't be any different. Richt wanted his Bobby Bowden type gig that he could sail off into the sunset and Diaz is a young, hungry savage who is taking no prisoners.

The loss to Pittsburgh demonstrated to our opponents how to beat Richts offense...watch as teams learn from Clemson how to beat Saban...it is how the game works (of course it will take talent plus to beat Alabama based on talent alone). One coach finds a weakness and future opponents exploit it or build to exploit it. Richt needed to try something different and not try over and over to use two lame QB's. He was forced to change the offense when all the TE's got injured and we crushed Pitt this year.

An example of adjusting was JJ had our kickoffs go to one side of the field and the ST's pinched the returner to one side...JJ recognized a weakness and had Bennie Blades on ST's as a roaming safety encase the returner escaped the pinching. Bobby Bowden recognized that Blades was hurt and not on special teams for one kickoff and his returner delayed and then tossed the ball across the field to Vanover (SP?) who ran for a TD. Lame example but shows how coaches need to be aware of everything and be able to adjust. Richt appeared to be unable to adjust and was like a deer in the headlights on the sideline.
