Manny sounded pretty confident on Joe Rose today

That would require you to be prepared. You will notice that Diaz does not have a card for situational down and distance. It was very clear that FSU knew EXACTLY what he was going to run on 4th and 14.
He was clearly on thin ice before this game but holy **** did he get exposed on Saturday.

Unprepared starting the game, undisciplined the entire game with penalties, defense got gashed, choosing to punt on 4th and 1 instead of icing the game, the 60 yard play in the final drive, 4th and 14 can't play basic zone defense, choosing to play for the stop instead of letting them score, letting 12 seconds run off before opting to call a timeout, FSU ended up scoring, the spike rule that he didn't know. It was an exhibit of poor coaching.

Miami is the only school that I've ever even heard the term 'soft landing' for failed coaches, failed AD, etc.

I've been pretty in-tune with family that has served on the BoT at Tennessee, a family member that coached at multiple SEC schools, and some other people that I know in various sports administration roles (SEC, ACC, AAC, Sun Belt, SoCon) - the picture they always paint is cut throat. I can't imagine any of them caring about a 'soft landing' for a failed employee. It shouldn't be a concern for someone that fails this badly and is compensated as significant as a Division 1 AD or Head Football Coach.

100%. I mean, it's a business. You don't go out of your way to be an ******* - you don't leave a guy at the stadium without a ride home or whatever people say.... but on the other hand you always put the school and its interests first.

If the plan is to replace the AD, then not only do they need to fire james, but they need to get a butt in the seat quickly. They should cut the chord with james today not as some kind of revenge or punishment or anything like that, but just because that needs to happen first as a matter of procedure, so they can get a new guy in place and settled as quickly as possible.

It's not personal. And that's what I don't get. I don't get why there doesn't seem to be more urgency coming from Miami.

A family friend that's an FSU fan that usually gets us tickets for games at Doak (alum that used to be an FBS defensive coordinator) was shocked they didn't bring some kind of CB/nickel blitz off the right side of the line (with 3 down lineman) to flush Travis to his left (with Keontra spying) and force him to try to make the spy miss in space with his legs and beat everyone else to the 1st down marker.. both would have never happened.. or throw on the move to his left to the short side of the field where there actually ended up being no WR that would have been in his vision. He would have thrown back towards the middle of the field.

I haven't fact checked it but apparently Travis has the worst (or was the worst a few weeks ago when he saw the stat) passer rating in America when rolling to his left. You'd think the analytics would have told that.. if we were looking at the relevant analytics.
This would require game prep and watching game tape. Manny only excels at post-game analytics. As you stated, if you force Travis out of a nice comfy pocket then he throws an incompletion or a pic.

Even Kirby Hocutt came out and talked the decision to fire Matt Wells.. the buyout amount dropping was never mentioned. He said what is obviously going to have to be done at some point should be done now. Cliche statement but it's the truth and he backed up his talk by doing it.

He can sound confident all he wants, it doesn't matter. He's done. He's done because the school can't afford to hemorrhage money and that's what will happen if he is retained. Miami would stand to lose millions in lost ticket sales alone and I don't think that the school is willing to eat that, just to keep Diaz Sr. Happy. He isn't Dimare, he isn't some huge donor, he's just some garbage politician who also ruined the Miami-Dade Democrats.

Joe Rose hit his *** right between the eyes. Makes me think that they both know Manny is done and they have an agreement to answer the tough questions. Made for good radio IMO.

If I were set to make the amount of money he will have made plus his buyout at this point, I’d be as confident and careless about what happens anyway. I know he cares and tried but it didn’t work. At the end of the day, he failed but will have made life changing money. He won’t have to work again if he wanted.

I was driving back from North Carolina and watching the game as I drove and even I noticed that every ******* time that FSU needed a play they would roll the QB and pocket to the right - like clockwork. Yet, our Corch, who was at the game, couldn't call a play to stop it even once. There was absolutely to chance in **** he would call a play to stop that 4th down play.

Did we worry about a soft landing for Shannon, Kehoe or even Golden? Didn't they all sue the university. Perhaps the new guys(s) cannot be announced because they have other commitments. As I stated previously, if Highsmith is indeed the Associate Athletic Director for Football let's say, when is his obligation complete with the Seahawks?

I've never, ever seen a coordinator on the sideline calling plays without a cue card with situational down and distance. It is obviously all in Diaz's head, which is a huge problem. FSU rolled the dice. Had we given them a fire blitz look they more than likely call timeout. I guarantee you they were chatting Miami gave them the exact look they wanted prior to the snap and they were happy as ****.

The call wasn't even bad. I would have called something different but I've only called a defense for 1 season at the HS JV level. What do I know?

The deeper issue is the secondary doesn't know how to play basic zone and have an understanding of zone principles with certain route concepts. The play call still could have worked. Not only do they not know but the coach still called it anyway.. that's the issue with the playcall if there is one.

Basic knowledge in high school football in Georgia, Texas, Alabama, California, etc. Can't say the same for Florida kids apparently.

Cliff notes?
Joe just asked him all of the questions that everyone on here asks. He did it in a nice direct way. Manny answered like he had a 20 year guaranteed contract. It was just nice to hear a media member ask the obvious and for Diaz to have minimal spin for once.
