Manny presser 3/26

Harley is what he is - he's a bit limited. I just want him to be consistent. He's not a WR1 type of guy who gets 1200 yards and 10 TDs.

My expectation for him is to be dependable especially on 3rd downs, be a positive influence on the other guys and come up with huge catches if called upon.
Theres a few nfl teams the jets and 49ers being some who dont have a true WR1. They just get guys who fit their scheme and have different skill sets. Harley would do good in an offense like that

I don't know about that. Jerry Rice ran a 4.7. He didn't get to become Jerry Rice the GOAT because of his physical gifts. He became that because he worked harder than anyone has ever worked at that position.

The way I see it, there are two ways to become great. You can either be Randy Moss and be born an athletic freak, or you can be Jerry Rice and just out-hustle everybody.

The receiver position rewards freak athletes, but more than that it's a craftsman position.

If Harley is working as hard as it seems, then no doubt he will make huge improvements this year. I don't care how "limited" he is... if he catches everything that comes his way, then he easily becomes WR1 and wills himself into the league just on sheer work ethic alone.

Guys like that are easy to root for. I want to see him do well, and I'm confident he will.

It’s a myth to think you’re not athletically gifted because you don’t run a 4.3

Speed isn’t the only measure of athleticism.

I don’t know how anybody could’ve watched Jerry Rice play and not thought he was athletically gifted.

The guy was athletically gifted.

The way he glided across the field, the way he caught the football, the way he evaded tacklers, the way he ran routes and worked himself open, oh yes, he was athletically gifted.

He also worked hard, but he was athletically gifted

You're not wrong, but everyone can probably agree he wasn't gifted like Randy Moss. He had a 4.65 shuttle time and, I'll add, there's a reason he played his college ball at Mississippi Valley State. He was what would be considered a 2-star recruit today. And yet he's probably regarded as the greatest receiver of all time, even ahead of Moss.

Obviously he had some physical gifts to go along with his work ethic, but what set him apart and made him Jerry Rice the legend was how he absolutely outworked everyone. His work ethic is stuff of football legend.

A lot of that "gliding," catching, and evading was because of confidence - he'd done it a million times before, he knew exactly where to go and when. He never hesitated or froze, he just moved, because he'd practiced every route and move a million times.

It's kind of like how you can have a linebacker with incredible speed and another who is a bit slower, but if the slow backer is decisive, he'll look faster on the field. Because if a 4.4 guy freezes or hesitates for half of one second, he's now a 4.9 guy.

Confidence and reaction time are, in my opinion, the most underrated traits in football.

The bigger point wasn't to debate Jerry Rice's athleticism, though. It was to say that the WR position is a lot about mastering your craft. Just making the prediction that Harley is going to succeed in a big way. Not saying he's the next Jerry Rice, but I AM saying that he's not so physically limited that he can never be WR1 here at Miami.

One thing Jerry Rice had that Harley can never have is size and length. Rice may not have had blazing straight line speed, but he ran effortlessly and smoothly and was a long strider.

The advantage Harley has is speed, but he’s lacking in the body department (not his fault), and he doesn’t have large hands. But yes, if he works hard he can definitely be on an NFL team. More importantly he can even have more of an impact this year at Miami.

Better late than never. If he can give us one great year, he'll fit right in with what we usually get out of our best players. See Rousseau and Phillips as the latest examples of one and done.

Didn't even get a year out of Rousseau. Phillips was misused. ... 15+ years of this ****. AQM, Olivier Vernon, Jimmy Graham, Sam Shields. Even when we get a good one we don't get the most out of him.

How long before the Jerry Rice wasn't fast myth turns into him running a 5.3 forty? How many times did we see Jerry Rice get run down on deep balls? Dude was always outrunning people.

I think he got run down by an overweight white dude in his mid 40s in that copper girdle commercial he is in with Favre

I'm not gonna bash Pope but isn't he technically a senior. This doesn't strike me as something Ive ever seen said about an upperclassmen. That sounds like something he should be doing with Restrepo or one of true freshmen, yikes!

We had an assistant coach who was just as mentally weak as Pope
