Manny on Joe Rose show this morning

Manny on D'Eriq King
- He's had a great camp and had a great night last night. A couple of his TD passes in the scrimmage came against "outstanding coverage." They're not live with the QB's, but even with playing tag he's been hard for defenders to get a hand on. He's someone the entire offense trusts and can rally around.

On RB's
- It took Knighton/Chaney a quarter to trust where the cuts and holes were, but once they got going they showed explosiveness. They felt they landed the top back in Dade and the top back in Broward, and they have not disappointed this week. When they burst through the line, they can really blow out some explosive runs. Knighton had a TD run of about 70 yards and Chaney had a 40 yarder.

OL
- They're coming together as a group. Only recalls D'Eriq getting sacked once on a naked bootleg by Phillips and another on a third down by Phillips. Different confidence from the OL group than in the past. What we're doing on offense helps them maybe more than any other group on offense.

Depth behind Roche/Phillips
- Jahfari Harvey has really made a step since the spring, not in terms of talent but in terms of his knowledge of the defense and understanding how to play the run/zone read. He's made a big jump. Cam Williams has been fantastic, showing toughness and length. Still has a lot of room for body growth. Chantz Williams had a few sacks and has a really good knack for rushing the passer. Elijah Roberts and Quentin Williams have flashed. Roberts will be a really good player for us.

Mallory
- I don't know if it's a 1-2 punch at TE [implies a 1 and 1A w/ Brevin]. Mallory is having himself a camp. Schematically what we're doing really helps him out. D'Eriq has a lot of trust in him. It'll make Brevin and everybody better because he's had a fantastic August.

LB's
- Return of Bradley Jennings has been one of the most pleasing parts of camp. He would've factored into the rotation last year if not for injury. Can solidify us inside at MIKE and allow McCloud to move over to WILL. Jennings knows defense inside and out. Steed tackled very well last night, played run very well. Brooks has had a good camp. Huff is learning and has a big upside. Flagg and Austin-Cave can play and will smack you. Both had big hits last night that got the sideline energized. Flagg's instincts really stand out. Snap count at LB will be a hotly contested battle over the next week or two and will evolve during the year.

WR's
- The 3 older guys have made the progress we want. Harley leading the way, Wiggins/Pope doing a good job. Payton ended scrimmage last night with a great TD catch in the corner of the end zone. Restrepo had a great night last night, scoring on long reverse and had another big, explosive play down the field. Getting Mike Redding back has been great. Likens has everybody on the same page and our depth will allow us to come at defenses in waves.

Backup QB
- N'Kosi and Tate did some good things. Nice to see Van Dyke get his first scrimmage action; things started to slow down for him as the day went on. Says they'll review the tape, but Diaz didn't say much indicating whether anyone stood out most in this competition.

Recruiting
- Unique year with pandemic and extension of dead period. Credits the staff. Thinks it's a better recruiting staff than a year ago, which is starting to pay dividends. Relationships are going a long way. Trust in a coaching staff is important, especially with everything going on in 2020 with raised awareness of racial injustice, pandemic. Families are understanding it's not just about playing in a stadium 7 times a year, it's about trusting the people you'll be around. Says staff has done phenomenal job.

Thanks!!

It’s a bit of a sigh of relief for me that Knighton busted a 70 yarder and Chaney a 40 yarder.

If you subtract these runs, their numbers are pedestrian. But it still shows how explosive they can be.

On the other hand, it means our defense didn’t get gashed as bad as I initially thought. Giving up two 70 yard TDs is a little concerning, but we don’t know what unit that was against (who were the safeties?!).

It's a first scrimmage so specifics aren't really important. The important thing is the Offensive line and skill players seem to be picking up the system pretty easily. I don't remember the offense ever beating up the defense in a first scrimmage.

Will Mallory will thrive in this offense... Lashlee isn’t trying to turn him into a blocking TE like Enos was trying to do. He’s a David Njoku, Jimmy Graham type... if you’re making Will be a blocker or work inside all the time, you don’t know wtf ur doing as an OC.

He has to catch that ball in this offense. He DROPPED way too many passes for me and for himself. Gotta catch the ball and has to stay healthy. Make Kelce and Kittles proud.

That's the thing with these scrimmages, is one side of the ball having a great game, or is the other side just garbage? who knows.

Those were the sweetest words I heard Manny phrase.

Unlike past years - we seem to understand our system, and everyone's enjoying it as well.

I'm sorry but the kid was so poorly utilized in Richt/Enos' offenses it was criminal. Every time I saw a jump ball thrown his way I wanted to gauge my eyeballs out.

I was always dogging Flagg I hope that kid proves me wrong man. Encouraging news especially at OL.....they should look better cause of scheme alone.
