Manny- no different than Lincoln Riley or Ryan Day

And superstar Lincoln had 28pts hung on his shell shocked team by a 67 yr old man before they even knew what stadium they were in.

He is so awesome I can't stand it. The saviour of any program he touches. Opposing teams just forfeit instead of even playing the game, because what is the point really?

This legend amd myth building is getting out of hand.

Until proven otherwise, Manolo is the best HC hire for Miami.

He fails, I'll fly the plane and banner myself.

What type of goal post moving is this?! Dude had his team in playoff, playing bama.

Diaz got his defense getting lit up by terrible wisky team and their backup qb.. Rb who was only weapon went for over 200+ yrds.

Lincoln Riley had been Oklahoma’s oc for two years. He was at East Carolina before that. He became HC at Oklahoma when he turned 33 years old. It’s complete revisionist history to think that wasn’t a big roll of the dice. People forget Manny was the hottest DC out there when he got the Texas job. Things fell apart with Mack Brown but he proved what a good DC he is the last few years.

It’s not exactly a full deck of defensive talent he was dealt. His defense had nowhere near the talent of a Bama, Clemson, LSU yet they performed at an elite level. He turned JAGs like Adrian Colbert and Michael Jackson into NFL players/prospects.

the idea that lincoln riley was a no brainer hire is completely revisionist. the rationale is the same -- after the sudden retirement of a respected coach with tons of job security, the people in the building who worked with lincoln identified him as a future head coach and locked im in quickly. i have no idea if manny will be as successful as him, but it's essentially the same move (ditto ohio state & ryan day) except manny is even more qualified on paper.

I can only hope. There is no room for distractions like him.
We wanted a butch type coach Manny is it.just give him a chance.the team as for special teams and offensive play is in shambles come next season you will see a better product on the field.I really can't wait now I can already hear mannys foot going up an offensive player and assistance a$$ now.

there is no statistical basis for the claim in this thread that miami's defense was anything less than elite the last 2 years

Dabo Swinney was on a “failed staff” and promoted to HC. Might be a better example of what we’re hoping for.

I definitely laughed at OSU when they hired Lincoln Riley. Turned out pretty good for them though.

Well, Lincoln Riley was promoted from within on an 11-2 team that finished ranked 5th in the country. The great Bob Stoops was in charge.

Ryan Day was promoted on a team that went 12-1 and is ranked 6th. Legend Urban Meyer handed it over to him.

Manny Diaz coached on a staff that put together an absolute train wreck of a season, went 7-6, and was so bad the coach quit. Not exactly a great situation or similar to these two.

Also Lincoln is more of an OC than a CEO and that can work because offense and QB play has an outsize impact on the game and trumps everything if they are working at an elite level.

I think the plan here is for Diaz to be a good CEO and then the pipe dream is he turns into Dabo and starts bag recruiting and overhauls the whole set up. There is no universe where he recruits outside of the top tier and then keeps up with big boys on the strength of his micromanaging of the defense, that is a joke of a vision if anyone is predicting that. A Heisman-level QB is worth more than multiple elite guys at other spots and makes up a lot of the difference in a talent gap, you can't pull that same trick on defense. Diaz needs to croot.

Will Miami spend some real money on a competent staff? Or will they be cheap and lazy about that too?
james has been neither cheap nor lazy decisive yes he knew when richt left he wanted to keep that d staff in place and just change offense so went and got guy he wanted diaz. now u don't have to like hire but the fact is james goes and gets what he wants everything else be damned our other ad's settled for cheapest or whoever would take job Shannon/golden but james has paid hc he pays the staff more then any past ad or coach had prior to richt. so whoever they h ire will get paid what most power 5 jobs do

Manny was as proficient a DC these last years as Riley and Day.

In many ways this reminds me of when Oklahoma hired Bob Stoops. Great DC who understands the culture. Be willing to bet he hires an innovative OC the way Stoops hired a then obscure coordinator Mike Leach.

Mike Leach coached at Oklahoma for one season, 1999. The record that season was 7-5, not sure that was the example you were hoping to make.
