If Duke wins the ACCCG, they will still be ranked below two G5 conference champs so will not get an automatic bid. There's no way the ACC gets locked out of the playoffs. The committee will have to put Miami in under that scenario. Go Blue Devils.

So he presented an idea that was completely against the rule? What am I missing here?

You gotta link the proof of that. It’s the top 5 rated conference champs. There’s no specification on what conferences.

Start at 2:40. To be clear, he's not saying Miami is guaranteed to get in. He's saying Duke won't get in and he doesn't see ACC getting locked out.

And if happpens that Tulane is the highest rated G6 champions, guess what they beat Duke this season, so perfectly valid for them to be the 5th conference champion over the bull**** Duke team that fluked their way to a championship game

Yup, I mentioned this in another thread.
 
What Pate is implying is that if they can’t put duke in because there right behind two group of five schools, they may have implied internal pressure to get Miami as an at large team because the ramifications of the ACC getting shut out means the ACC would lose $4 million of bonus participation dollars from the conference participating in the college football playoff this year just for getting a team in. If a team from
Conference makes quarters, that’s another 4 mil

I can’t remember exactly what it said but I think he confused the bonus pool from the fact that the ACC teams all get $14 million a year as a result of the playoff anyway I think he thought the base is discretionary of no team from the ACC qualified, but I don’t believe that’s accurate. I think it’s just the performance of getting a team in and how far they go And that’s just per team added to the acc who then basically gives it all back to the team.

Do I believe they will do that? Doubtful but it’s a theory.

The rule states the 5 highest rated conference champions are in. What people like Pate are saying is if Duke wins: Tulane and JMU would get in due to that rule, but then they might feel obligated to put Miami in over ND as an at large team due to not completely locking the ACC from the playoffs. It is not that Miami would take Duke's spot as ACC champion

Fair point. But it’s hard to have as bad of luck as we’ve had this last month - but here we are.

The worst part is we took care of our own business for once to end the season and fate still smites us.
