Manny I know your reading..

Keontra Smith at WLB + striker essentially creates what you are looking for.

Seems Manny is already leaning towards playing to our personnel strengths.

I absolutely DO remember the UNC QB dragging his *** around...and so does most of this board...and our 2016-2019 LBing was mediocre at best.....and YOU were the one who scoffed at my quote of our LBing from 83-2003...when in fact...I was correct...and of course, you conveniently left off 2000-2003 in your above statement....and that BS about "Modern Day" football is Douchebaggery at its finest...I can name dozens of UM LBers from 83-2003...that would EASILY start at UM today....
I’m sure there’s some ND fans wondering why they aren’t dominanting based on 30+ years in their history😭☘️..Army too..mediocre at best nah..especially not from From 55..but again I knew this would happen and that guy’s presence would be missed..some of the same members of this board called for brooks to play over 55..purely dumb ****..and once again comparing the game TODAY and the production at the LB position too the 80s and early 2000s is asinine and disingenuous..and to scoff at the FACT that modern day football is a different game then the decades u seem to be stuck in is laughable..too your LBers who start on this team from 2000-2003..no ****. Great assessment. Great convo🍻🤝

How about a 4-1-6 with James Williams playing Mike!
Nah..there’s gonna be a adjustment period for James..him playing Mike dead smack in the middle is crazy..he gonna be in packages for sure..there 2 guys who I think have the experience with making the calls on D who could do it for 40 snaps..Carter and Gil..I don’t think those two should be used like that all szn..but for this matchup I’d do it

I get where you are coming from, but size does worry me slightly playing Bama.... Wish we had a couple true run stuffing LBers.
I agree but as I said I don’t see those impact guys against the run on this roster RN. Maybe those guy have improved ..I wouldn’t bet my money..but I think it’s important to pay attention to how Bama been trending..if the thought in the fanbase is that they aren’t gunns let Bryce spin it your fooling yourself

I would have at least two defenses that Bama has not seen before.

One defense would be a 4-0-7. I agree that the linebackers we have at the moment will not contribute much to stop either the run or the pass. This defense should have 5 safeties assuming that the striker is essentially a safety. We have a lot of speed and talent at these positions.

The 4-0-7 defense should be more effective against the run than our 4-2-5 defense until Bama makes adjustments. The other defense should be a 5-0-6. I believe Bama‘s game plan will focus on running right at us. We are 10 deep on the defense line. Two of our defensive ends are faster or more athletic than many linebackers. We could play a combination of two defensive tackles and three defensive ends or vice versa and three corners and three safeties that would force Bryce to beat us.

This defense would be effective against the run, create pressure on Bryce on pass plays, minimize Bryce’s running lanes, feature lots of speed in the back six and force Bryce to beat our DBs which I believe are a strength of the defense.

Go rewatch last year's UNC game and tell me why Saban would ever go 3-4 WR sets? He'll go run-first until we make some stops. And honestly, I'm not sure we'll be able to stop them - LBs are suspect at best.

Because he won’t have amnesia about the majority of the rest of our games.

Plz..plzzz do not be stubborn like OSU. If Bama comes out with 3/4 wide WR sets early..have a 0 linebacker package ready..just for this matchup a
4-0-7 Defense should be in the cards. We have the personnel. Thanks for reading.
My concern they come out in 2 te set and pound the ball. If they come out in 3/4 wide wr sets that plays to our strengths. I think Saban is smart enough to know this.

This is exactly what they’re going to do. Robinson is a 230 lb back with speed. Objective for them will be to pound the rock as Saban will want to see if Miami can stop them.

How many Two TE sets has Bama been using?..one poster used the Unc example, and again Unc ran the ball out of 10 personnel, 20 and 11..Bama is not guna come out in 2 TE sets for majority of this game..why would they not play to Bryce strengths and frankly the offenses

That UNC debacle happened because we were never in proper position to defend the run. It was more about scheme than physicality. Manny and Shoop should get that squared away and we will play the run much better. Baker was in over his head.

Not only Baker but stroud also..and guys were getting whipped along with being out of place

They’re going to run run run and give it to us any which way they like. The key to our defense having a chance is stopping the run without having to play a single high safety consistently.
They’re very good at isolating WRs in the slot and our safeties/strikers won’t match up well 1v1
I agree. I have no doubt Saban is feeding them doses of our high energy appearance against UNC at the end of the season. He has to be telling them that we cannot match their physicality and once they hit us in the mouth enough, we will quit on our coach and arm tackle at best.

Anyone reading that and hating it as much as I hated typing it knows why they hate it so much.

This Fall camp better be different and UM will need to be tough up the gut or they will be able to do whatever they want all night.

Not sure. I don’t follow Bama but I know they’re deep even if inexperienced. I don’t think they put that kind of pressure on Young the first game.

All I am sure of following our team is that our weakness is at linebacker. If I am coaching the opposing team I attack that with a power run game (if I have the horses) Bama has the beef up front to do it.

I follow Bama and CFB enough to know Bryce was all but given the keys to start as soon as he stepped on campus. It took Mac Jones having the year he had to hold him off. That was very much a Tua/hurts situation. Which lets me know that kid has the goods. Spring game he looked like a natural. And I understand it’s his 1st start..but he is a 2nd year guy and not a true freshman. We’ll see what happens tho..I know our players aren’t intimidated
