Manny died yesterday.
Though not a Cane, he was a Miami legend.
He held the Super Bowl record for tackles for 32 years, until Dan Morgan broke his record. He was the anchor of the No Name Defense as the Nose Guard (tackle), recording at least one sack in all three 70’s Dolphin Super Bowls.

I worked with Manny for several years and had known him for a few years before that.

Great guy who loved football and hunting.

Funny story, not sure if true though, Fins picked him up because of his last name, hoping he would connect with the growing Cuban community. However, dude didn't speak Spanish.
He was an American of Mexican ancestry.

The other story that made me mad, adding to my contempt of sports "journalists", is that Fernandez was dominant vs the Redskins in the Super Bowl.
He could've and should've been awarded MVP of the game.
However, **** Schaap, a writer for Sports magazine who was the judge of this award, barely watched the game because he was dealing with a bad hangover from the previous night.
Reminds me of the stories of the sports writers who are appointed voters for college fb polls.

Both are true.

By the time I first met him, early 90’s, he knew conversational Spanish.
He was Director of Marketing for Commonwealth Land Title at the time for Broward and Dade Counties. His name recognition and personality were a natural for the position, but some of his and our agents, in Dade, spoke Spanish so he naturally adapted.

My company and his shared a database for land records and courthouse runners, so we had met a few times during those years.

Later both he and I worked for First American Title. Him in the same role and by that time, I was the Senior Commercial Examiner and underwriting counsel for Palm Beach County. We spoke at least once a week on the phone, when one of his agents would get a PB County commercial transaction and he needed a favor to expedite or a problem to solve.

Also truish. He wore glasses when I first met him.
I believe and I’m going off of old memory, that he got RK a few years before I got LASIK, with mixed results. RK had a rep for only lasting a few years before you start to regress again, while my LASIK has lasted 25 years.
Had he waited a couple years, he could have gotten LASIK.
