Manny Diaz on WQAM 6-28-21

Manny Diaz on WQAM: You know, we felt like we were close here last year. To quote my good friend, and former Temple Head Coach, Al Golden, “Last year we felt like we laid down the true foundation for 2021. We are building the University of Miami football program brick by brick. Last year we laid the foundation, this year is another step, and we should be ready to go by 2027.” At this point I’d like to announce that I’ve been extended by Black James until 2031. No further questions at this time.

When unfunny people try to be funny it's like nails on a chalkboard. Jesus.

Paraphrasing the **** out of this but:

-said we have a few "non-public" commits.

-touched on winning the recruiting game come NSD instead of having a bunch of kids commit in the Summer only to not wind up in the class.

-talked about Paradise and knowing that some kids are definitely interested while they know others aren't.

-talked about NIL a bit, nothing Earth shattering.

-said King should be good for Bama.

There was more to it than that but I got sidetracked and wasn't paying much attention.
I liked the part about knowing the guys who are really interested and knowing the guys who were just bored at home and wanted a reason to get out the house so they came to the camp. Let them come but dont waste resources. Plus the current players are absolutely letting the staff know who is really interested and who is full of **** as well. These kids can peep game.

Manny mentioned how the current players are the most important recruiters. Notes how Miami hasn't had players leaving in the transfer portal and that speaks to the culture they are building.

Manny is high on Brian Balom, says he was a late bloomer in high school, but has a bright future at Miami. Used him as an example of why senior year evaluations are important and how there could be a lot of late bloomers this year due to limited tape/lack of opportunity last year.
We need to be bigging this up more. To have ZERO transfers this offseason (so far) is insane. ZERO. Wow..We (myself included) had already pegged our list of guys who wouldnt be here once the Spring semester ended and **** were alot of us dead wrong. Not saying some still might not leave but ****..if they are planning on it still time is running out.

You can say what you want about Manny, but hes is absolutely changing the culture. I would love to know out of the top 25 teams in the country, how many had no guys transfer this offseason. Ill bet that number is single digits.

I like Balom but that Safety room is getting crowded with 5* talent and more could be on the way. (Kamari Wilson?) Good luck to the kid and may the best man win.

I get your point but I actually think not having some transfers is a bad thing. Cut the fat type situation. Teams with high level competitors and kids getting beat out will always have transfers. I find it odd we have had none.

Maybe it is a good thing like you stated, but it worries me a bit.

I mean if our recruiters are using minute phones and don’t have enough in the budget for gas to go from gables to heritage..then your right. Let’s not waste resources. But if the phone bills are paid up and those salaries can cover the gas there’s no reason to not send a “Hey big head” text once in a while

Your right, the current players for sure have the pulse. Kids see through the bs

I’m not sleeping on balom. 5stars don’t mean ish. Once u on campus it’s a clean slate. Still gotta work to get on the field. But this roster is slowly starting to look like it’s moving in the right direction

I think a main reason we haven’t seen so many transfers from Miami like other teams have experienced is because kids know it isn’t guaranteed they will find a home with the NCAA sitting on there hands regarding the scholly limits. See the Cleveland Reed situation. If the NCAA came out tomorrow and increased the counter, I’m sure we would have 3-5 guys gone that day, but we would have them replaced just as quickly because guys want to play here now.

Kids here probably made the rational choice of wanting to compete (buying into the culture) and live in Miami vs transferring with no home which could result in you playing at a G5 program or worse.

If memory serves me right we have lost.
1. Kosi - Grad Transfer FAU - wanted to stay but the writing was on the wall.
2. Burns - Grad Transfer UCONN - not sure if he wanted to stay, but writing was on the wall for him.
3. Patrick Joyner to Utah state - was never going to see the field here.

Dont get me wrong, I would have loved for at least a few guys on my personal list to hit the road..but for them to stick it out?..sheesh..Manny must be really doing something right. Whatever that is.

As much heat as he takes on this site for being lame and corny (I.E., the infamous water slide he did in the rain after we barely beat some lowly opponent last year..cant remember which one it was..I didnt think it was that bad but CIS crucified him..) Alot of that **** must be working and the kids seem to like him. (shrugs)

Kosi was gone after his bowl game performance. He wasnt sticking around not one hour longer to sit behing King.

I'll give you Joyner and Burns. But 2 out of all the guys most people just knew were leaving right after Spring ball ended is still **** impressive. We can kill Manny all we want and make rational reasons as to why kids stayed..but it comes down to the fact that if your not happy somewhere..your not happy and it doesnt matter what the circumstances are you are leaving and thats that. We have a portal full of kids just sitting in there trying t find a home to prove that. They would rather wait it out then to stay where they were..These kids must like Manny and are happy here. (for now) Just my opinion.

It’s not crowded at all would be the thought process of a dog. None of those stars matter on greentree and balom looks good.
