Manny Diaz interview 8-7-18

This is a bold statement.
McIntosh was really dominant at times for us last season.
If Willis has a better season then he may win some awards come winter time.

He’s more talented but that always mean better, we’ll see.

I don’t remember McIntosh being dominant or taking over any games. He had some good moments here and there, but I don’t remember him wrecking any offenses like our past dominant DTs used to do.

I think UM fans have forgotten what dominant DT play looks like because we haven’t seen it in so long.

This is 1000% true. "Dominate" DTs aren't 5th round picks. They're normally top 10 picks. Chise is right that we have forgotten what that was like.

It was either UVA or Syracuse last year, but RJ was dominant in it. He blew up about three 3rd/4th and shorts alone and had a sack. He literally could not be blocked.
But overall I agree, he was good, and had a good year but overall a “dominant” DT, no.

As a Giants fan I know about the illness.
It is not certain however that he will miss the whole season though right?

THat is possibly correct, he had no training camp and wonder if he would be able to contribute. He did get paid $2.7MM and the club feels he has a future. It appears that B J HIll rookie from N C State appears to be playing end in the 3-4. That is a position RJ was also drafted for given his speed and athleticism. I suspect he will sit the year out.

He had a dominant game vs unc and uva. Was also good vs pitt. He had a bad showing in the Wisconsin game for sure though

I could not agree with you and chise more. It has truly been so long since we have seen what CANE dominant DT play looks like. I pray and believe it won't be long before we are treated to that elite level of interior DL havoc we crave.

I do not like getting into a game of semantics. And I do not like comparing players from different eras.
I am just saying that he played well for us at key times last season and if G plays better than him I do believe he will be winning some awards.

I’m not interested in semantics or quibbling either. I just don’t think Norton or McIntosh were dominant, consistently excellent, or great DTs. They were generally good players but far from super impactful or irreplaceable.

I agree, that's a fair assessment. RJ and Norton were very good, RJ in particular did a lot of good that @HurricaneVision pointed out, but the dominant moments were few and far between.

Truly dominant DT play can render an offense largely, if not completely, ineffective. Even in this era of designer offenses, there isn't a solution for getting dominated in the trenches all game long.

Who was our last dominant DT, Wilfork? It was a beautiful thing.

McIntosh flashed way more than Norton... will they be missed... that's like saying Shaq's fresh year when the lb from miramar got kicked out. Turned into a pleasant surprise.

Vtech, UVA, & ND and the second half of Syracuse. Dude was penetrating and wreaking havoc all over the place whether pressuring the QB or Running down plays in the backfield or forcing plays to other defenders.

Some fools here have no idea what they are talking about.

This is exactly what I am trying to avoid.
People are arguing about the word "dominant" and its definition instead of seeing the main point being made.
It is a bit nauseating to me.

Next man up. We know.

That said, I do believe it is bold to say a guy who did not play a snap last season will have a better season than McIntosh. I hope it happens and I do know he has the potential to do it.

Theres no arguing. What I described about McIntosh is dominant play by a DT.
