Just from hearing coach richt and Diaz speak about the team you can tell how talented they think this team is.


Loved hearing that about miller and Silvera that they are what Miami dts should look like.
Also how jon ford reshaped his body.

Much was made when Norton and McIntosh left but like i said months ago and Diaz just echoed it in 2016 we had talent yes but no proven players on the dline so we were basically starting from scratch. Kind of similar in 2018 but we have a lot more experienced players on the dline now than we had in 2016. The talent is definitely there

No doubt we are talented but ive said this several times, if Mac and Norton would have stayed and Young would have never gotten hurt, the college football world world be sh1tting their pants right now.

Btw my favorite quote of the interview was about the culture "the pack taking in the puppies and showing them how to be dogs!!!". Oh boy we are coming!!!
 
The key for this defense will come down to the defensive tackles. Can they replace or out perform Norton/McIntosh? All of our other defensive units should be improved from last year.

You're absolutely right. Having those three players back completely changes the dynamic of this team, from a depth perspective.

The biggest question mark remains the offensive line.

I agree however if we get alittle creative on play calling I think we can hide some warts. I think wrking the lane kiffin type hurry up, quick throws, and just the superior athletes we have versus most of our comp can hide some deficiencies.
 
If we continue to recruit on the level we are at there is no reason we shouldn't be contending for a spot in the CFP every year.

Like Diaz mentioned, when you are a freshman and you have to line up against Richards, Thomas, Pope, Wiggins, Harley or Cager they will only make you better. Miami has always been held to a standard of greatness. Inside & outside. Glad Richt is upholding this. Even though our staff is unproven, it seems as though these players are buying in.

Idk about you, but depth is the #1 thing Diaz likes about this defense. First time that has been said, with quality Miami talent, in a long time.
 
Do we have everything we need in place to contend for a natty? Nope, not yet. But we've got a very talented team with good depth - only a few holes remaining to address.

That said, no reason why we can't go into the ACCCG undefeated. And with our depth, I expect to see a competitive game against Clemson.
 
The thing to me that softens the blow most when pertaining to the DTs who bolted for the NFL is that we now have G who is focused and has emerged as a leader. I do not remember anyone saying Mcintosh or Norton were leaders so that is a positive we did not have last season.
We also have a transfer DT who people seem to like as a person and is ready to prove in his last season of eligibility that he should be drafted.
That is essentially two guys who are playing for money in 2019. Usually kids like that know it is their last chance and go out there and leave everything on the field and show a lot of heart.

Then we have the frosh prospects coaches and players are saying positive things about which also makes me feel less concerned about DT.

Clemson is definitely beatable. Lots of teams were able to score/move the ball against them last season. One of the main reasons Miami got washed in last year's ACCCG is because the team was out of gas, depleted from injuries and they shot themselves in the foot early on with points left on the field. They're still kings of the ACC but they're not all world.
 
I call BS on Norton and McIntosh.

Honestly, this is Miami - we should expect those kids to go pro.

Just like how I'm expecting Nesta, Joe Jackson, Garvin etc. to turn pro early when given the chance.

There should be no excuses of "if he had not gone pro". We should recruit expecting every one of our signees to go pro after their JR year (even if unrealistic in practice). That's the game now.

Yeah Gerald Willis was pretty much raving about the character of Tito odengibo and said he couldn’t wait to play with him.Seems like a great guy. Interested to see what he does because he has size, is very atheltic with a good get off

This is a bold statement.
McIntosh was really dominant at times for us last season.
If Willis has a better season then he may win some awards come winter time.

I've been thinking this for some time as well. Talent was never an issue but now he's really motivated being that this is his last chance.

I don't think R J could have played this year as he has a thyroid condition as is on the IR non football related list.

As a Giants fan I know about the illness.
It is not certain however that he will miss the whole season though right?

Yes , and health. Abt injuries in that rotation would be awful , especially Willis.

I'm still iffy on the DBs we have to play more than 2 Corners. We have two proven corners. Redwine I'm waiting to see take the next step. At times last year (Yes I know his first year at safety) he would be out of position. Late to the ball and if you look at many of our big plays allowed you'll consistently see guys like Redwine and Delaney.

I feel awesome about Jaquan and Mike Jackson tho. Bandy was a dog at nickel. I want to see how he does on the outside now against the bigger WR.
