Manny Diaz in Stats

ERicht, for your viewing pleasure:

Aranda 2013 notable 'great' performances:

45-0 vs UMass
48-0 vs Tennessee Tech
41-10 vs Purdue
20-7 vs Minnesota
51-3 vs Indiana

2014 season:

37-3 vs Western Illinois
37-0 vs Rutgers
52-7 vs Maryland

2015 season:

58-0 vs Miami (OH)
28-3 vs Troy
28-0 vs Hawaii
24-7 vs Purdue

His numbers are all skewed due to the horrendous competition he has faced....in all cases his team is far more talented. Now go look at the games where he played against good teams with more talent. its a different story. Completely different case with a guy like Don Brown who actually faced a ton of good offensive teams this season and still fielded a top defense.....he is someone worth crying about.

Like i said, this Aranda guy is a fraud....we dodged a bullet.

He can only play the schedule he is given. And every time, he's been elite.

You want to bet that LSU has a top 10 defense next year?

Yes I do. top 10...LOL. bring it on.

Mods: let it be known that if LSU ends up with a top 10 defense next season, Valid is to be banned. If they do not, I am to be banned. Simple.

I like stats and here are the stats on him. These are all his rank nationally. Make your opinion

Total stats are for losers. They mean very little. For example. Miss St is ranked 122 in time of possession. Their d is on the field a ton. So what do you think that means for total numbers.

Where does he rank per play? 3rd down percentage ? Red zone %? Pass completion %? Sacks? Tfl?

I don't know the answer to the above but To me that would show his potential.

Middle tennesse is a miracle and then playing against the SEC with the worst talented rrcruiting glasses other than vandy. Have some perspective

You can't sell people on numbers if they can't add. Aka, half the dudes on the board.

Guy is terrible.

care to explain Aranda's numbers when facing good competition? 59-0 against ohio state a year ago? giving up 24+ points to teams like LSU, Illinois, Minnesota?

We dodged a bullet having to pay 1 million for a fraud.

Valid making valid points.

Aranda got 1.7 mil. Miami can't afford that ppl.

We got the best coach for the money imo. Also the stats you posted don't show the turnarounds he had at la tech, miss state and Texas in year one

Report: Mississippi State to hire Manny Diaz as defensive coordinator

To go along with my other post, LA tech defense jumped from over 100 to 23rd in fbs in first season. Also saw significant increases at miss state and Texas year one..

However the most important thing is.. Who else would we have gotten for the same money? Dude was making avg money at miss state, Aranda reportedly being highest paid coordinator in cfb

I see top 12 finishes in FEI Defense 3 times and top 10 S&P+ once since '10, and his worst year ever he was just 51st and 41st respectively. Advanced stats seem to look favorably on his style as he is borderline elite.

Here are the advanced stats:

Year FEI S&P+
2010 12 22
2011 9 9
2012 38 32
2014 9 24
2015 51 41
AVERAGE 23.8 25.6

Thanks for posting fei, actually makes me feel a lot better about this hire. You definitely have to put things in the context of who you have versus who you are going against. Dorito was maybe the greatest underachiever in all of CFb in recent memory. Diaz seems to be doing pretty well going up against really tough teams with not equivalent talent on either offense or defense.

Yea not exactly sure what it's doing as I didn't look into it but if it's good, it's better stat... I'll take it and hope he kills it here
