Manny Diaz Hire Revisited

That’s the price of success these days. I’m glad to see we are stepping our game up (we are) but we are severely behind the elite. Look at the staff budgets for the championship level programs and compare to ours. We still have a huge gap to close.

Thats why we need to be hiring hungry coaches not corches who are looking to pad their retirement fund.

I’m not there yet but I’m becoming more and more skeptical. I just want to see any semblance of an adjustment to start me off on the redemption tour but I think I’ll be kept waiting

Our defense became dominant once coach shannon got here, the only leak in his defenses was a few qb scrambles here and there but everybody else was getting shutdown, now shannon knows defense and who gave him his first job, jimmy johnson, the same jimmy that hired butch davis.

Greg Schiano...dude knows defense.
Hiring him would’ve been safe hire but also a lazy hire.

What I don’t understand is why didn’t he look at Mike Elko, Bob Shoop, or a guy like Dave Woody at a school like App St.

If I remember correctly Richt was going to hire Aranda until LSU swept in with that crazy offer. That would have been a huge hire.

Diaz seems to get worse over time.

Diaz is like Richt, runs outdated system that quickly becomes easy to figure and gameplan against.

The same Mike Elko who Rosier & Richt abused last year? Yeah I’ll pass on him. He isn’t anything special. He has had success, he isn’t a scrub and put together some solid performances while at Wake but Manny at his best is better than him at his peak, JMO.
I’m not saying any of this to defend Manny right now because PLENTY of the stuff he does absolutely blows my mind and ****es me off tremendously, like all the ******* subbing and soft coverage at the absolute wrong times. At the end of the day though we started slow/bad last year too and ended up alright. Obviously I wanted us to hire Aranda initially too but someone beat us with big boy money so we got what we got and have to take the good with the bad. His side of the ball is the lesser of the 2 evils and it’s not even close is really what I’m trying to say ..

Any time a coach starts hiring his family, it is not a good sign..

A few QB scrambles? And just a few TE catches and WR crossing routes too, right?

No, our defense became dominant when Butch stacked it with Pro-Bowlers.

When Shannon restocked the pond with Glenn Cook, Romeo Davis, Levon Ponder and Carlos Armour it was gashed and trahsed repeatedly.

Yea Elko had a hiccup against us but his defense was solid last year againt Uga and LSU. Two SEC teams with power running games that would of probably mauled us.

People get caught up in shannon the headcoach vs shannon the d-co. At the end of the day, he was one of the best d-co's this school has had. It can be said it was because he had talent, but that statement should be applied to all the d-co's than from the 90's and 80's if that's the case. The question is, how often did you see blown assignments when he was the d-co, shannon defenses put people in position to make plays.

In his short stint as the. Gaytor's d-co, they were balling on that side of the ball, they're offenses were just trash. His defenses always featured linebackers that stood out, right not, all we're getting is solid linebacker play at best, which is why this defense will not be elite until we get better linebacker play.

Hearing guys talk about "we won the physical battle" lol, no worries though, Blades is here, he'll start tightening guys up to make sure they have the right mentality, along with jade, it was to much talk about are the young guys going to be nervous and this and that before the game, by rosier, Ahmon, cager and whoever else.

Coach dugans said it way before the game, it starts with the coaching staff, when it came to being dominant and being prepared for lsu, and after seeing Fsu's offense, it was an easy decision for coach dugans to stay at UM. To much talking not enuff playing once the game starts, although i was ****ed, it was comical seeing pickney keep flying in their missing tackles and everytime he did that he would get up and look towards the sideline cause he knew he was getting subbed out for it, lol. But not long enuff, at the end of the day, we will see what happens, seeing guys get down on themselves the whole game because they gave up a long run means one thing, none of them have faith that this offense could do anything. The good news is, when they were asking brian hightower about the young qb's he said, "they are playmakers".

We understand what's going on, gotta start coaching around the weakness of the team, the young guns are going to start taking over as the season progresses. As soon as Blades got in their, he did a good job on that one slot route he covered, got the receiver down(unlike dean who looked like he out their running track like he was in lane 5 and the receiver was in lane 3) and got a good hit in on burrows when he ran.

Nothing is wrong with the defensive scheme. It Manny as a play caller that's the problem. He blitzes like a crazy person and he got all the bad blitzes that are poorly disguised. Oh, and his inability to coach LBs. Our LBs have probably gotten worse since being here. None make plays in the passing game and none of them are that good at run fits.

I almost forgot the guy is the one who teaches tackling in case you were wondering why we suck at tackling.

Spend money. Win big. Dude abused us on Sunday

The school definitely doesn't spend the money that our fans expect them to. Conversely the fans don't donate the money to justify their insane expecations.

At the time I wanted Jim Leavitt. He was available and is a good defensive coordinator. He is now with Oregon.
