Manny Diaz Hire Revisited

Most people wanted the '85 Buddy Ryan.

I would've settled for the '91 Sonny Lubick

Some one whohad not just been fired. We had three fired coaches, and still have two of them. Kool might be at Bama but the man did not recruit or coach DTs. Butch had three or more coaches end up as NFL HCs — frigging NFL Head Coaches. Any of these losers making it there?

I specifically remember some of the legit posters on here being very disappointed with the hire. If I recall correctly there was skepticism on the run D at Texas and blitzes in general.

I was prepared for it to be really bad and was pleasantly surprised at what we got. Bc my expectations were low.

Nah you're right. Chise was blasting Mangy Diaz in the face before he even got here.

He sniffed that **** out right away
Yup I remember I dug up everything about him all the way back to his first days as a DC.

I remember a lot of the vets and myself wanted Don Brown or Dave Aranda.

My bad you were one as well that knew he was a bust before he got here.

Fk me this is depressing.

I was all in on Dave Aranda since he was at Utah St. He bosses with less talent.
It wasn’t that I thought it was bad but my question was how he put all those guys in the league at UT and Miss St and all of the sudden the facet shut off. At first I thought it was Miss St. being a 2nd tier program and UT real quick fall from grace but EL O EL now I really know why. His scheme and playing calling feels like he’s trying to play 3D chess with himself but even if you give him NFL talent he either doesn’t develop them fully or he puts them in real bad position. Now I see why guys like Quandre Diggs are miles better after they left.

@Miami04 this is why he got worse. When he has a plethora of talent the dude was lights out but strip some of it away and everything falls apart.

We offered Aranda and he took more money at LSU if I remember right. Spend money. Win big. Dude abused us on Sunday
Yea but it was a crazy, crazy type offer. I believe he’s paid more than some lower tier D1 coaches.

That’s the price of success these days. I’m glad to see we are stepping our game up (we are) but we are severely behind the elite. Look at the staff budgets for the championship level programs and compare to ours. We still have a huge gap to close.
