Every coach has to start from somewhere. Manny came from really nowhere and now he's a house hold name and he's well know in the college football world! Now he's no longer a secret! With the #1 defense and inventing the turnover chain it can do that for you! His work on the field made him what he is!

Randy Shannon was pretty much in the same sphere as Manny in that they had no previous HC experince but were well known for being great assistant coaches. The both being defensive coaches is where the similarities in my opinion stops!

Looking back at Randy's teenier as HC, he came in with the whole program on the brink of total collapse, NCAA cloud of possible investigations into the football team. No IPF! The campus was in need of some serious upgrades and renovation. Randy lacked the ability to attract good assistant coaches. Boosters were not fully in with his hire and they were in a wait and see mode before throwing money at the program. Randy lacked the needed communication skills to promote the program and attract donors that would contribute on a regular basis. As a black coach going into the Mid West to recruit the OLs or just getting some of the top QBs from those areas was a challenge. So this tied his hands and left him only looking in Florida or giving scholarships to second tier athletes just to fill the void.

Randy was pretty much in a no win situation. He was 8 to 10 years promoted as HC before he should have been. I'm using Randy as a gauge because he is what Manny Diaz comes closes to that most on here can relate to. Randy was a failure as we all know!

Lets look at another coach that has failed but eventually with the right timing and support he was able to succeed. Nick Saban! Saban coached on the DF side of the ball like Manny! His teenier in the beginning was not always successful. After HC at Toledo 1990 9-2 season he coached under Bill Belichick in Cleveland for 4 yrs, which in Saban's own words were the worst years of coaching in his life! In 1995 he went to MST as HC and for 6 yrs he had an average of 6 win season until 1999 where he won 9 games.

Saban left there for the SEC to coach at LSU in 2000. He had a fairly good string of win seasons there but nothing extra ordinary!

Left for the NFL to Miami! We know how that turned out! He blew 2 years here, stuck his tail between his legs and ran back to the CFL. Hired by Alabama in 2007 where they ended the yr at 7-6 and from there the rest is history! Playing in 6 Championship games winning 5 in 12 years, he has become the most dominate coach in college football!

Nick Saban's coaching history proves that winning sometimes has to be timed right even if you are a great coach!

Timing was wrong for Randy Shannon but I think the timing is right for Manny to succeed at Miami!! Manny has all of the pieces to make it right, excellent defensive coaching scheme, No coach need to be replaced on that side of the ball! Bring in a great offensive minded coach whether they have a truck load of experience or resume!! If they come with the scheme and style that would work and fit the type of recruits from SFL. Just like Manny's philosophy and scheme and paying attention to details on defense worked a great scheme or philosophy should work on offense if they pay attention to details as well!

The program is not reeling, Yet! No cloud! We now have an IPF! The Stadium for recruits and fans has proven to be a great college atmosphere when winning! Manny has many on the staff right now that are proven top recruiters! But lets not make any mistake about it!!.......If you win the school will recruit itself!! Winners recruit winners and not the coaches!! Saban is winning in the recruiting game because they are winners!

Jimmy Johnson wasn't winning until he got to Miami! Butch came from the Cowboys and was a assistant coach there and created a winner here as a HC and that's with the cover of the NCAA cloud over the program!

Saban, Jimmy, Butch and Manny all have in common is that they were all great assistance defensive minded coaches!

I would hate to see Manny go else where. The timing is right for a coach of his caliber to be given the chance. Even with proven HCs it's still no guarantee they will succeed either....ie...Michigan....ND just showing some signs of life with money that they are paying out for these coaches.

We are in the hotbed of recruits, SFL. Getting the right OC to go with what is already working on DF should make for instant success at Miami! Manny is a young innovative coach that can attract other young creative minded coaches to come on board especially on OF. Money should not be an issue since they don't have to break the bank for the HC. They can dangle higher pay to attract better assistance coaches. JMO!

It won't happen partly because of what happened with the last time a d-coordinator was promoted and partly because richt is not going anywhere. He's given the AD no reason to fire him(even though we at CIS have already fired him)

Failure to win teams that are inferior to us is a very good reason to get fired!! Any boss not getting the right output from his workers don't last long on the job unless they are related to him.

At places like Alabama or Georgia yes because those schools care about nothing else other than football. They spend the entire state revenues on the football team. Miami admin. is ok with going 8-4, 9-3 every year and staying out of trouble
