When the time comes, would we seriously want to go down this road AGAIN? Our whole downward spiral started by offering our former OC then we didn’t learn a **** thing and said what the **** let’s just try our DC. Then for good measure we offered a head coach of TEMPLE and then a washed up fired head coach. I don’t think we can afford to take another risk as much as I like Diaz. I think our next hire has to be a homerun or fold.

Miami has never made homerun hires..only accomplished coach Miami hired was..guess who..Mark Richt

So you are saying that JJ, Erickson and Butch weren’t accomplished before coming here? Schnelly didn’t do so well for the Colts but had an extensive NFL background as well. Might want to check your facts next time.

Now if we could go back to Oklahoma State, Washington State, or cowboys defensive coordinator next time, me might be in business

Diaz is not the answer. He has no HC experience and his Defenses don't do great against good offenses. How would our defense do against Clemson? I know how that worked out for us in the ACCCG!!!! Really against any top 10 team we would struggle on defense. I do think he would be a better HC than Morky Mork and the Morky Bunch!!!

He was so accomplished he got fired. Howard was far and beyond the most accomplished HC we ever hired. JJ and Denis were young and upcoming coaches who had done all they could where they were. Butch proved to be fantastic but at the time he was just about the only one who would take the job. We got lucky.

If picking HCs was easy no school would ever have bad years. Even when you get a great one, time will pass them by at some point. Miami’s biggest problem is it can’t realize it has made a mistake and move on quickly. Nope, it has to give a long contract extension for the slightest reason and then fire the coach. We need to go back to hiring young coaches that want a stepping stone to NFL. This is Miami and has history as the hottest ***** in the world so let’s stop looking of a frigging husband and find the next great John.

Miami's issue with hiring HC's is that they don't seem to want a big-time PERSONALITY. They also treat the program as an NFL team like the Cleveland Browns where emotional hires they only value "who we get to steady the ship, to maximize revenue(sales: tickets/merch/etc) , but also won't rock the boat with Universitiy image and decision-making?"

Hiring Richt proves the bag can be gathered, but the bigger the name, the more personality the coach will show, and the more boat rocking the boat the HC will do. Think about all the big name coaches. There are the either the big personalities(Leech, Gundy, Holgerson, etc), or the Top-tier(Saban's, the Meyer's, and the Dabo's) who get EVERYTHING they ask for with no hesitation to prevent problems.

Miami doesn't want either of those, so they attempt a hedge. They go for the guy who may not be qualified, but doesnt come off as a complete incompetent selection who will thereby be cheap, not rock the boat, and draw some fan support initially with their perceived worst-case scenario being having to start over a few years. If you win, GREAT! If you don't, they will hedge again.

Manolo has the POTENTIAL to be a great HC as any other rising candidates out there.

Could he be Miami's next Johnson?

Fuente was thought of as the same, but his POTENTIAL remains just that.

Remember the time we hired Butch Davis, who had no HC experience? Sometimes men are ready for HC gigs and sometimes they are not. Sometimes guys with experience and a decent record elsewhere come in and fall flat in their face.

I would actually trust Diaz to hire an OC, because I know he wants to unleash **** with his D with a lead. He is probably the only assistant in the country I would consider as a HC at this point. The D would stay strong, and the O would improve by default.

That's what everyone said about the last hire. The point is that Many might be awesome or he might suck, just like anyone else.
