Manny are we ever going figure out what filling gaps mean

Part of the Disease. We are doing better than suddenly come back and act like we never been there before. Old problem.

Fact remains we will never be able to stop a team like Wisconsin. Too many stunts/slants with poor gap integrity behind mixed with not strong enough at point of attack. Good thing we don’t play those teams

Our defense is not about lanes its about shooting gaps and causing negative plays, which we do pretty well. However, the other side of that coin is we might give up big plays. If u want a bend but not break defense Manny isnt for you.

Even in a one gap penetrating system you still have lanes. Each player is responsible for theirs. It breaks down when some guys freelance and do their own thing, opening a hole....Manny made reference to this years ago.. but it also breaks down when we stunt so much and create gaps ourself, allowing those lineman to easily get washed down.

Ur exactly right.

Time after time we see our Dline not shutting down lanes. Linebackers out of position. Not a new problem. Aside from tackling it is our number one defensive issue and it never gets fixed. Facts are facts.
I'm gonna go ahead and guess that you think every time a play works our D was out of position. I'll admit it's frustrating to watch the other team scheme us like that, but there's a difference between them making correct guesses about what we'll do and us being out of position.

Why start now. That is a staple in the dIAZ dEFENSE

In mannys system the player chooses the gap at the snap, or at least that’s how his system worked in the past. So that may account for some of the perceived freelancing.

Or setting the edge, getting up field on jet sweeps and swings passes to RB and protecting the first down line on 3 and long. Finally, stop sending the blitz looping around the DE, send it inside and force the QB into the arms of the DE's.

Our tackling can be atrocious....our Gap integrity has been *** for awhile...
This is most certainly a valid point and a fair criticism. Yesterday was strange because the defense seemed energized which is great coming off of an emotional win against a rival like FSU. The problem is they played sloppy and reckless football. Going forward I need to see more attention to detail in that regard. This should be a big point of emphasis in the off season.

Let's give Louisville some credit. They have run the ball well against everyone they have played including ND and Clemson.
