Random thoughts, but I just put it together that Manny Diaz was Mullen's DC/LB coach twice at Miss State. I don't think about Miss State enough to have already made that connection.
(This random thread is brought to you as a result of me seeing that Geof Collins was working Miami's camp today, remembering he coached under Mullen at Miss State, & wondering if he had a connection to us through Manny. He did not, as Manny's 2 stints in Mississippi bookended Collins'.)

But anyway, I wonder what their dynamic is.
I wonder what kind of grasp he has on Mullen's offense from coaching against it in practice every day on two different occasions.

Lowkey, I also wonder what kinda dirt Manny has on Mullen from working with him.
I bet Manny knows a thing or two Mullen doesn't want getting out.

And I wonder if Manny can use his time with Mullen to negative recruit UF.
Maybe an "I was on Mullen's staff when he interviewed for the Miami job and got beat out by Richt. He wanted to be at Miami first and so should you." type deal.

Twice?

He left and took Texas gig, got canned , had a stop at La Tech and back to miss st.

Is that right? I wasn’t aware he was there for the first gig before Texas. Was Mullet their coach for his first gig with MSU then too?

Thanks for the responses.

Two things.

Mullet really must like Manny. The guy leaves him and the he hires him back again.

Second thing, all rivalries and such set aside for a second, Manny owes the guy a lot. Gave him his first P5 gig, then after he got unceremoniously dropped kick out of Texas (fairly or unfairly), got him back into the P5 ranks again out of LaTech.

I would expect Manny’s got nothing bad to say about Mullet, or really shouldn’t, in all fairness.

Ok, nice guy cap off. Fūck that idiot Mullet.

I would think that Manny would have a very good beat on Mullen's offense. Put it this way, as a head coach with a particular offensive philosophy that you feel is tough to defend, you would probably look for a guy to coach your defense that may have an answer to it. Mullen is from the Meyer coaching tree and this type of spread offense and all of its variants are being implemented all over the league. I think Manny's defense with its 4-2-5 alignment is designed to defend these types of offenses, and I think this was the reason Richt wanted Manny to be his DC.

1) Wasn't Miss St mostly about defense when they were winning games, Prescott notwithstanding?

2) If you haven't read the amazing piece (posted here earlier) about Ole Miss, Miss St, bagmen, etc., you should. It's long but one of the better sports reads I've had in a long time. If Manny knows//has evidence that Mullen steered that player (can't remember his name) to snitch on Ole Miss to the NCAA... that's bad.

Scout team offense. You don’t prepare for the upcoming practicing against your teams offense. They practiced against a difference offense every week. If you played, you’d get it.

In-season. Yes.
But I'd venture to say during fall practice and spring practice you practice against your team's offense.
That's not even including multiple scrimmages and an entire intrasquad spring game.
And even in-season there will be some situational occasions where your team's "offensive 1's" tries things out in practice against the "defensive 1's".

This is garbage. Who cares about Mullins or Florida for that matter. It's a dumpster. If we're worried about an outer conference team in the stix than I iguess we have bigger issues than I imagined. Lions don't listen when a mouse growl.

Sure. Whatever you say guy...

You do realize that works BOTH ways

Just sayin

True, but you do all Spring and part of Summer.

Not sayin it doesn't. But, last I checked, Manny was never turned down (publicly at least) by UF for a gig. Mullen was turned down by Miami. And maybe they both have dirt on each other so they say nothing. Maybe they both have dirt on each other so they both negative recruit using said dirt. Maybe only one has leverage over the other. I have no clue. But I was just throwing it out there as a possibility. I wondered what their dynamic is. That's all.
