Manny’s two rookie mistakes

The rookie mistake is not having enough patience and to bash him for trivial things before the hire even happens. There is a lot that goes into this, especially coaches that are in high demand which we are targeting.
 
Just need the right hire, would be ideal to have him and his staff in place by the weekend for the last leg of recruiting. Lets move on

I never said they were huge mistakes. And I’m sure he wasnt lying either. But because of outside factors why say how great all these OC’s are you’ve got in the bag and will be done by Thursday?

Then if you end up having to hire someone from La Tech on Saturday you look foolish. Not saying that’s going to happen but he would have been better off being as vague as possible about the OC hire.

Again, it’s not a huge deal.

At this point, Diaz is not choosing his OC, he is waiting to here from one who decides their other options are exhausted so I'll go to Miami

Some of you need to re-read the OP. It's not even remotely mean spirited or reactionary. Just pointing out how Manny could have done this a little better.
 
So you read stateoftheu's twitter huh? Cam posted the same thing about 30 minutes before you posted this.
 
So what would you have him say?

We have 3-4 candidate and they are decent hires?

I don’t get some of the ppl here. Not everyone goes through life feeling inadequate. You want a “savage coach” you want a “coach with swag”.

Then you get a coach who willing to hype the U and put it out there that we are the best program regardless of what else is happening and you criticize saying “it was a mistake”.

I’m gunna end my rant but seriously consider to stop being so boring and dull and start living your life with some fire and passion and excitement for what your doing. If you don’t believe in what your doing no one else will.

I think my mistake was not realizing we were in the point of the new hire that anything remotely negative will get you sent to oblivion. It was my mistake, I’ve seen it too many times and should have know better.

I don’t want a coach who relies on public opinion to shape how he feels about the program and choices he makes. If Manny hires an OC from North Dakota State as long as he believes that the guy to guide us to NCs it doesn’t matter what we think about it. The results will ultimately be the deciding factor. Everyone is on Dabo’s jock around here. Honest question when he built a slide that everyone mocked by the way. Do you think he cared about how others opinion? No he didn’t.

Where did he say the hire would be done by Thursday? I just browsed through the transript of his press conference and this is all I found regarding the timing of the OC hire:

"The timing for when it will happen is when it’s going to happen. I am not interested in it happening fast, I am interested in it happening ‘right.’ It’s going to be the person that’s the right fit for the program. There are other outside factors at play in terms of when certain people will be available. But the hire will be announced when the hire is right. All that matters to me is that we get the right person in the right position."

I don't disagree. But I also acknowledge that Jefe is under a lot of pressure in his new role, which is why he gets paid the big bucks...Things could've been handled a little differently and I'm sure he will adjust and adapt as his HC gig matures.

“You have to understand who you are at your core and who you are at your philosophical center,” Diaz told 560 WQAM. “If I am going to be responsible for the offense, I want it to mirror our defense. What is our defense? It is aggressive. We are going to be aggressive on offense. We want to create problems on offense. We are not afraid to take chances, but at the same time we are going to be sound.”



Diaz is currently in the process of hiring an offensive coordinator who can install that philosophy on offense.

It's semantics, but it isn't a quote, and it say's he'd like to have the hire done by Thursday, not that he would have the hire done. I appreciate you digging this up though. I knew he didn't say this much in his press conference, and what he said then was that it will be done when it is done. And that was a quote.

I think it was a post press conference interview or on 560 he said the Thursday part. Basically it was I want to have it done by Thursday next week so I can have a staff when the dead period ends. He put a date on it in terms so people took it at face value and now he has walked it back saying it will be this weekend. With Miami I have learned nothing goes as planned.
