It is amazing that he doesn’t have a serious sense a urgency in his situation. If the HC thing doesn’t workout for him here, he may never get another shot (ala Shannon). Here is why:
1. He demonstrated a lack of character and integrity in how he handled the Temple HC situation. Leaving them flat after taking the job can’t sit well with AD in general. AD’s talk and he could have created some animosity out there with potential future AD’s.
2. He took his “Dream Job” with much fanfare. He sold this as TNM to distance it from the old regime. Only to have the same culture present itself. Now he spinning it as a “total rebuild”. If he ends up not getting the chance to turn this around, what is he going to sell the next AD?
3. He is going to interview for a HC with #1 and #2 hanging over his head. What AD would buy what he is selling?
The bottom-line is he needed to come in with a sense of urgency to win now. He has now allowed a culture he was looking to eradicate to fester. He has shown 0 ability to figure out how to fix it. His summer-fall evaluation on this team was awful. Any good evaluator would have know this team was not ready for prime time. Our D couldn’t have been that good if it didn’t expose our pitiful offense and vice versa. The K situation couldn’t have just manifested itself when the season started. He should have felt compelled to make changes early on. Move personnel around or out if need be. Everyone, including himself should have understood there will be a high level of accountability. It would have forced players and coaches to perform with an edge. He needs to understand that he will never be trusted with another P-5 program again. This is it for him and judging by the way he is handling things. It should be.
