Man, listening to these sports shows today

These man probably already have Mario and waiting on the championship game. I know im being insensitive but i doubt people who have money didn't find a way to speak to him when he visited Saturday night. Also lets get one thing clear, there are multiple fan bases in turmoil right now because of coaching changes we are hardly unique. Also people are saying they haven't spoken to Lane, that would be the hire like Lincoln Riley, in terms of there are no reports we made contact with him. I think we have to just calm down to be honest. This coming sunday is when everything breaks for us. Coaching. All the teams hiring coaches, none of them have HC playing in championship games. We are the only one. Riley would not have been announced had they beaten Ok St.

We’d be a GODDAMNED FOOL if we don’t hop on Kiffen…like…RIGHT NOW!!!! Just about every talking head (Colin Cowherd, Shannon Sharpe, Marcellus Wiley, etc.) ALL mentioning/slurping the USC hire and how Lane at Miami would be just as EPIC. The rest of the world sees it and knows it…”most” of us see it..know it. So why are we ***king around, wasting precious time, holding on to Manny hoping Mario comes?!?! Like…W. T. F.?!???!😳
Only one better is Urban

when we hire Mario I'm interested to see how the national media covers it. today all I've heard is praise for USC and their administration for finally being "aligned".

we have to land Mario and then leak that we're paying him 9M. leak that he has unlimited access to the PJ etc. that will get the CFB world to take us seriously. USC gave us the blueprint all we have to do is follow it.

Please stop

“He has more ambition” than the guy who left a top 5 program and multiple heisman winners under his belt..to resurrect USC who isn’t even bowl eligible..man I don’t even wanna fight on this..but it’s flat out silly to think kiffin is on Riley’s level..there’s no stretch in Lanes career on par to what Riley did at OU in his short time there. He elevated that place..and lane was at USC and Tennessee. 2 places that If lane was that guy..he would’ve killed it there
You couldn’t be more wrong.

Riley inherited a championship level program from Bob Stoops. All he had to do was not **** it up. Credit to him for extending Oklahoma’s winning ways under his leadership. But he’s never had to build a program from scratch like Lane has at different places.

I love Lincoln Riley, and wish that he would have come to Miami. But to try to **** on Lane by dissing him is disingenuous at best.

You might think that he’s not a good choice optics wise for the U, but you can’t deny that the guy is an offensive guru, and that he has the sort of “us against the world” attitude that fits perfectly with Miami.

He just led an Ole Miss squad playing in the toughest conference and division in college football to a 10-2 record, with way less talent overall than what Lincoln had at OU.

Kiffin is a great coach, and would do great things as the Canes HC. If he brings in a guy like Lebby with him (as @Liberty City El previously stated), we’d be feared again nationally.

Bob stoops hadn’t won a natty since 1999..The last time OU made that game under stoops they got embarrassed in 04. They never got close again under stoops in the next 10 years..Riley came in and right away had them as a top 4 contender DAY1…he produced multiple heisman winners including A walk on from Texas tech
...There’s absolutely no stretch in kiffin career where you can even begin to make a argument. He took over USC had multiple good classes based off the aura thst still surrounded that program post Pete..and did what?..befor that he was at a SEC blue blood only to take his dream job..see usc above..I’ll give him a past on being a utter embarrassment in the NFL..he went to bamas coach rehabilitation program..and was unceremoniously dismissed DAYS befor a national championship game..and don’t tell me he left for FAU..hes a good offensive mind..he’s had a good year at Olemiss with LSU and AU down in the west.

In 18 seasons as OU HC, Bob stoops won 10 or more games 14 times, and 11 or more games 12 times, including his last season when they went 11-2.

Again, you couldn’t be more wrong. They were in the hunt for a title almost every season that he was their HC. Just because he never won another one after 1999, doesn’t mean that the guy didn’t have a championship contending program year after year.

From 2005-2016 OU was not a top 4 program...and he was dismissed because of how he couldn’t get over the hump..now list all that Riley accomplished in his short tenure after he took over a bob stoops team..he went 55-10 with multiple heisman winners and multiple Playoff appearances

I think that’s the plan all along. Manny’s the guy. Like another poster said…”politics “. FML
That’s why Manny is STILL employed. Mario can’t chase a job that isn’t open and Lane won’t wait much longer. But they will tell us “we missed out”. I’m really starting to HATE MIAMI. Never thought I would ever say that…

I see Kiffin as a Jimmy Johnson type hire. Kiffin has more ambition than Riley. Riley turned down NFL HC jobs because like Saban, he knows he can load up on the best recruits and almost always have a competitive advantage. Kiffin doesn't give a f*** and wants to win championships in college and the NFL so he can prove to all the haters who doubted him that he's a better coach than the college lifers and his name should be mentioned alongside Carroll, JJ, and Switzer as the only coaches to win at both levels.
And you will never see any of that. Time to face facts. Uber politically correct sociopaths have this program in an unbreakable chokehold and they will never let go. The program we love is chained up in a basement and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anyone coming to rescue them. I thought for a minute that this Mas/Ruiz stuff would be it but it was a false alarm. Epstein answered the door and convinced the swat team that the cries for help coming from the basement were just the TV. This program is dead. I would rather see them pull the plug than to wallow in the misery that this institutional mediocrity brings. End this please.

Over the hump?!? Are you being serious here?

Most of us Canes fans would be grateful for a coach that could win 10 or more games 14 out of 18 seasons, and 11 games or more 12 times, including 1 natty.

The point is that the guy had a great program already built. It’s not as if he left OU when they were mediocre and he couldn’t coach anymore. His wasn’t a Bobby Bowden scenario, where hos team was mediocre or bad. He still had that program running in all cylinders.

Good post/thread, Rivercity.

I'll add that now is the time for us to hire a guy like Tom Jurich. One of his forte's as an Athletic Director was the creativity that he used in structuring coaches' contracts. With this new uptick in price tags for elite coaches, now more than ever UM needs a man like Jurich to protect their interests with the next couple coaching contracts for football and basketball.

I agree but hasn't Jurich been eliminated from consideration? We will never ever hire a guy like Tom Jurich. It's pathetic and depressing.

But they weren’t running on all cylinders. From 09-15 OU had 3 conference titles..Riley won it every year…the proof is with OU dismissal of him as the HC and then what Riley did in his short stint. I’m not saying stoops wasn’t a great coach..this has 0 to do with us. That’s a mute point…stoops will be in the CFB HOF..the argument was Riley vs Lane..and there’s no stretch in lanes career that comes remotely close..I honestly think ppl should YouTube or google Lanes career..for the life of me I don’t understand the hype

Corso was spot on ☝🏾

Here’s how USC ended

And this is the nail in the coffin for meyou probably won’t watch the videos so I’ll spoil them: Basically says Kiffin was the Golden child who did nothing to deserve the Tennessee job to start with

Like I said and have been saying, idk where the positive narrative for Kiffin began. I’m assuming it’s because his name has been a mainstay really in Football as a whole since 2007..but absolutely nowhere he’s been has ended well..fool me one time shame on you..Twice..well you won’t fool me a 3rd..but on the 3rd chance..your just a dumb ***..and I’m not taking much away from him this year..but with his resume that’s not enough for me to hope he coaches here..I’d skip right over his name if we miss on Mario.

Im expecting UM to hire a Cuban version of Blake James.
The funny thing is that I have always been an optimist regarding the future of this program because I knew how simple the process would be if we decided to go for it. Now that I have a better sense of the politics at play and how they work I have come to the sad realization that this program is dead and will never be back because there is a small contingent with political power who will never let that happen. It's over. Time to face it and move on.

You gotta put an asterisk next to Switzer though don't you? The Larry Coker of the NFL?

I already tried explaining to you the difference in the program that one of them (Riley) inherited, and the programs that the other one (Kiffin) has taken over and rebuilt.

If you still can’t see, or don’t want to see the differences and how they would make a big difference in their overall career record, then there’s little else to discuss here, as you’re not gonna change my mind, and I’m definitely not changing yours. It is what it is.
