Man, Lane looks great in his new gear

He would be purely a rental. He has not left a single previous stop on good terms.

Why would a stay at Miami be different??

this.

every head coaching job he's left, it's been on nasty terms. he's the butch davis of his era, where the people he's worked for, after he leaves, want nothing to do with him.

imo kiffen would stay longer easier for him to get to the playoffs n win!! why would he wanna deal with old *** owner in the NFL like he did with al Davis

I think you just made CaneInOrlando's head explode

I can't speak to that and I'm not dunking on butch.

he assembled a great roster of players (obviously) and assistant coaches (CJ, Pagano, and Hargreaves, and others )

but the fact is, he left on bad terms at all of those places, so much so his non-grata at all of them. some guys just seem to exit ungracefully.

Not knocking Lane, but I need help understanding why people are obsessed with him. I love the swag, the splash hire, the fact the local recruits/HS coaches would go nuts. But looking at his P5 record over 7 full seasons, he only won 10 games once, and that included a bowl game.

I’m not ****ing in the Kool-Aid, I just want to know what the best case for him is.
There appears to be two groups obsessed with him.

All part of the fun I guess.

Well, I don't like your assessment, but I believe you are correct.
If he does really well, and he probably would, the first NFL flirtation and he's gone.

Then you put in a contract clause like Clemson did with Dabo, where it will cost $45 million to hire him away. If Kiffin is at UM for two years and a NFL owner or school wants to pay UM $45 million for Kiffin, then I don't give a **** about continuity. If this is your main hesitation about Kiffin, it is a problem that is easily resolved with a simple contract clause. UM could take that 45 million buyout, give Oregon 7 mil for Cristobal and then have 38 million dollars extra for the HC and staffs salary.

This is why you have a top notch AD. If the HC is successful and gets hired away by the NFL, the AD should be able to get another home run hire, just like JJ replaced Schnelly, Erickson replaced JJ, and then Butch replaced Erickson. I trust Tom Jurich as he has demonstrated he knows how to find good HC candidates.

Either would I but would we alos be a 2 year pit stop like TN, USC, FAU and Ole Miss? Or would he actually give us 4-5 years to make a run at championships
Where did this narrative come from? He left tennessee after 1 year for usc because he spent years at usc and it’s a big city which he seems to like. He was at usc 4 years and was fired he didn’t leave. He spent 3 years at bama as oc and left for the fau hc job and he was there 3 years. This narrative that he is just jumping up leaving jobs is fake

That is my concern as well. Less than 4-5 years is a problem because I think that we realistically need 4-5 years with the right coaching and admin support to compete for anything more than the ACC Coastal.
He would elevate us to a top team in 2-3 years, tie him into a large buyout and if someone poaches him we actually end up on the receiving end.
