Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney has been named to the Jet Award Preseason Watch List.

The award goes to the most outstanding return specialist (kickoff or punt returner) in the country. In the 2025 season, Toney had 23 attempts for 298 yards. He had a big punt return versus Texas A&M, to help Miami defeat the Aggies.

This past season, Toney was one of the best freshman wide receivers in the country — leading the Hurricanes in receiving yards (1,212). Toney also added 10 receiving touchdowns, and averaged 11.1 yards per reception.

The semifinalist for the award will be announced in early October, with finalists to be named in late November, before the winner gets named in early January.

Of course you want the ball in Toney's hands as much as possible, but I'd like to see one of the other freak athletes we have get some more reps returning punts to limit his "wear and tear" throughout the season.
