Miami Hurricanes football star freshman wide receiver Malachi Toney is switching up his look for the 2026-27 season.

After wearing No. 10 during his breakout freshman campaign, Toney is officially moving back to No. 1, a number he’s worn before and one that fits his role.



The change also clears the way for new Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah, who previously wore No. 10 at Duke Blue Devils football and will keep that number in Coral Gables.

"Number 1 in the program; Number 1 in our Hearts," as Fred Goldsmith, my old high school coach here in Punta Gorda used to say. He was from Coral Cables when they were a powerhouse. Turned us around, sent 11 of us to college, one went on to the Cowboys and three Superbowls and he went on to be a two-time NCAA Coach of the year at Rice and Duke.
