This university has been using phrases such as “wants to do something meaningful”, “focus is on football”, “not wanting to follow status quo”, “wants to get serious” among others YET it appears that a failing AD from NM state who has just as much baggage, if not more, than jurich dating back to his LSU days? NM state one of the worst D1 sports programs in the country and we are expected to think Nunez can turn us around? Do they think highsmith/Torretta equates to “focus on football”?! This whole process makes absolutely no sense and doesn’t match with what they have preached the last several weeks. This leads me to believe it’s 1 of 3 things. 1. The university thinks we are dumber than we actually are and will actually believe that because Nunez was apart of a $EC program that it means it’s a big time hire 2. The UNIVERSITY is dumber than we thought and THEY believe nunez is a big time hire because he was in the SEC 3. This is all a smoke screen for things going on behind the scenes and we actually are going after some big names/hires. My gut tells me it’s a mixture of 1/2…..no way they are that smart to do 3#

My gut says your gut is spot on. Especially if they are only doing a second round interview today. What exactly were they doing for the first week or two, or even leading up to the firing of Blake?

Julio Frenk is the reason for all of these problems, from the timing to the public civil war of the board to the entire way this process has played out. IMO, this is his hail mary attempt to stay on as president, by appeasing the Mas contingent of the board and getting the fans excited about change in the AD. But it is entirely reactionary with not an iota of forethought, common sense, or business sense being used. If that guy's hand is touching the decision, it is absolutely going to crap.

They claimed to fire Blake for not having a spine or courage to demand more money and resources.

Is THIS guy a spineless b*tch too? Or is he going to let his nuts hang and walk into offices and demand sh*t?

Let me ask you this. Say they pull off Alonzo to over see football and hire Mario as coach, are you really going to be worried about the guy who’s job is fundraising and administrative work?
I would wait to see what EXACT roles/responsibilities ZO would have. If he is a glorified Ed Reed and what he does as chief of staff it’ll be same ole same ole. However he has legitimate power over the HC position and football related responsibilities then I would at the very least be intrigued. If we end up getting Mario in this scenario though I’ll tip my cap to them and then wait to see how Nunez handles Bball & baseball…

You should’ve known the effort wasn’t there when there are people in the bot that have been fighting tooth and nail to keep the worst coach we’ve ever had here.
However the effort by those that want change is positive news and credit to them for doing all they can considering that they’re up against a former mayor who probably has dirt and is cashing in in favors to save his son.

Jurich has an open fbi investigation and Nunez was an ASST at LSU. What’re u talking about

Typical political misdirection and a ploy to quiet the bad press/noise from the embarrassment suffered by the Herbstreit Gameday fiasco. Everything is playing out in the crony nepotistic manner synonymous with UM athletics. The only surprise at this point would be Manny actually getting the axe.

Yes. This isn’t mini football. It is a major P5 university with multiple sports.

Where’s Herbstreit when you need him the most?

We need someone to light these ******** up again…

Everyone in CFB looking for a coach has already hired one ( except for Oklahoma and Notre Dump that just happened) and we’re still ******* around interviewing 3rd rate AD wanna be’s.

All this crap Frenk spewed was just water to put out the fire Kirk started that embarrassed them.

You can bet your last dime that these ******** are going to do the same sHT they always do and go cheap and off the wall.

Manny Sr is still pulling the strings and has all these BOT members held hostage because he knows of all the back room dealings they’ve done to make their money. There’s no other reason.

You can bank it now that Nunez the puppet will be the AD and Manny will get another year and then a 3 yr extension.

When, not if, this happens this old Cane fan is D O N E done with this ******* program..

Only thing that "makes no sense" is firing this shot before the pieces all fall into place.

Nunez to Miami is as real as Torretta to Miami or Highsmith to Miami in AD roles at this point.

As others stated, if Cristobal is Miami's coach by next week and Highsmith is on board in a football GM-type role—that's not "meaningful" or "focused on football"?
