Make Your Argument: Ray Lewis as DC

Lol at you clowning the Turnover chain because I gave you an example of how marketing works with media coverage they guy can’t argue against.

Now you want to pretend that you don’t have Turnover chain paraphernalia, or that you were not rooting for it to make an appearance this year and last, or that you didn’t want Diaz to leave because our defense was our strongest phase of our team.

Yeah right you don’t like the Turnover chain.

Your argument loses all credibility when you pretend like everyone UM fan wasn’t rooting for the hype that the Turnover over chain brings.

I’m done with this conversation. Can’t debate with that state of denial and silliness

One more thing about the Turnip Chain, that was created by the coaches as a way of getting the players to buy into what they were doing and to encourage internal competition......of course, the local doofusses chose to make it into an opportunity to sell paraphernalia pertaining to that nonsense just like they did a few years prior with the stupid orange to emblazoned on tee shirts.
Play good football and win games.

Would love for him to spend time working with our LBs from time to time, but for DC? NO

I don't think our fellow fans understand how labor intensive it is to be a college football coach....50-60 (and often more) hours per week....often on the road and not seeing family....alot of our former players don't need to put in those hours for the remainder of their lives...

EH. Sure, Why not?

WGAF at this point?

It'll be entertaining in this off season at least.

For sure

I don't feel bad for the coaches. They take the job knowing the expectations with the job.

The families that can put up with it, are the real MVPs.

I've been following the Canes since the mid1970s, I don't need a stupid piece of oversized jewelry to keep me interested in program......the best form of marketing a sports team is to provide a very good product....win games and contend for championships.....even moreso in a shty sports area like FtLaud/Miami....hiring so-called big names and/or former Cane greats has nothing to.do with winning.

Saying how long you have been following the canes since the 1970s has nothing to do with our discussion and means nothing ( this is not a conversation to find out who’s jimmy is the biggest or who can **** the furthest). If anything it tells me that you are more prone to be like Richt and believe that 30 year old tactics will get us back to prominence.

I also didn’t know that the Turnover chain was meant to impress your fandom. Obviously you don’t have a grasp of what’s impressionable to the kids we recruit to play for the team.

Let me explain it one more time for those in the back. Hype/ fads, props etc around the program brings media attention which intern generates buzz. Recruits like the attention and want to play in the spotlight that it brings. Pair good recruiting with good to great coaching and you get a good product on the field. A good product on the field galvanizes the fan base along with the props or media attention things that we do as a program. Example Turnover chain with last years wining steak.

I’m willing to bet you will get with what ever movement as long as we winning.

This kind of big name hire of the right choice of course, fits in the equation above.

But I’m done, it feels like I’m telling a dinasour that mechanical thing that looks like you is not another dinasour it’s a robot but he just won’t listen.

You missed my point entirely.
Has nothing to do with having sympathy for the coaches.
It has more to do with people like Ed Reed or Ray Lewis not having to work for the remainder of their lives and if they do want to work they can slap on a suit and work at a football studio 1-2 days a week for 4 months out of the year.
People of that ilk may not want to put up with those hours in addition to kissing up to 18 year kids, most of whom may not really know who they are anyways.

Ray Lewis as DC:
Pros--
- One of greatest defensive on-the-field play callers in NFL history (far more important than being a great player)
- Tremendous motivational energy (like a JJ)
- Charismatic and relatable to players--appeared to be huge asset as player-coach on Ravens
- Translatable passion for Miami program
- Stated desire to have positive impact on young people (his own son's troubles notwithstanding)

Cons--
- Might have "too much" alpha behavior in him for Richt's liking
- Has never been DC (first time for everything...experience can be WAY overrated sometimes)
- Does he have drive to truly be a long term answer?

That's not a glaring weakness or anything.

I tend to agree with you Macho Man for some.

Miami needs an asset who can lead, understands how to communicate to staff and players, understands how offenses will try to defeat him, and make adjustments when the original plan doesn't survive first contact.

Easy of course.

Anybody suggesting a former player to be our DC, one of which has ZERO coaching/coordinating, has no clue on what the coordinator job entails. It's a slap in the face to the position to even suggest that a guy with no experience can do it adequately. It is a lot of fvckin' work.
They're not just out there rolling the dice and calling their favorite defensive plays. There's so much detailed work that goes on during the week.

It's hard work on the high school level (if you're doing it properly). The college level is a whole other ballgame.

There is absolutely zero correlation between playing the game well and coaching the game well.
One of the worst misconceptions in football.

Ed Reed makes more sense. At least he coached in the NFL for sometime (not sure how long). Not that I'm advocating that.

I’ll take him as head coach. I don’t want to watch him have to kick Mork’s a$$ after 8 straight three-n-outs followed by 20 yard punts.
