Make Practice Difficult Again

I’m trying to find team bowl records since say 2000-present. Canes probably have set the new bar for total ineptness and incompetence in the power 5 during that time. I also believe we only missed 1 bowl game during that time when we self-imposed for the Nevin fiasco. We would have lost that year’s bowl game as well and Folden knew it.

Miami is 2-9 dating back to the Peach Bowl that LSU smashed us in.

Just amazing you can’t make this stuff up and 1 of those wins was by a single point vs. Nevada. Something is very wrong with the school’s approach to bowl games. It has been multiple coaches cant blame only Rick for this.

I don’t think is social media itself...but it reflects the culture of today. Call me what you want or neg me to death, these kids today are pussys. I’m 37 and I’m a ***** compared to my dad and that generation and his dad before that. But I’ll be damned if I’m caught in this bull**** of today.

Instant gratification is expected. No one wants to work hard and earn or take anything. They feel they DESERVER it. And then they run to social media to spill every ounce of feelings about it.

Very few wanna roll up their sleeves anymore and get to work. It is their right these days...and giving them a way to release all this to everyone only makes it worse.

Of course this is my opinion and like I said, have at me...

It’s why the Chinese admiral just stated that America is scared of war and scared of casualties. We have ALL become soft as a country/culture

OMG, again with this? Randy Shannon has eliminated the Camp Coker mentality!! Al Golden has us play for FIVE quarters! Mark Richt implementing SEC level practices! So I guess NOW is the time to start practicing??

It’s also interesting that 1 of the main selling points for the IPF was weather canceling or cutting short practices. I guess they will need to find another excuse.

I agree that we need to make practices hard again - iron sharpens iron. Former Canes always talk about it and even Bama was going pads and hitting before the playoffs.

That said, we need to actually SIGN kids to do this because our depth is atrocious at several positions and we need better to minimize risk of injuries and spread out the reps.

A couple of things. Should practices be harder? Yes, probably. Here's the kicker. Make them hard as F in preseason camp, but during the season, it's different now. But you realize, 2 and 3 a days are no longer allowed. Once the season starts, most coaches will not have any live hitting. Thuds? Sometimes. Here's the other thing. When I speak with college coaches, a key word I almost always hear from them is "recovery". They start their game taper Tuesday, so Wednesdays and Thursdays becoming progressively easier. It's all about the players feeling well Saturdays. Are there exceptions to these things? Maybe, but IDK where. Keep in mind that the NCAA regulates so much of this **** now. Also, the Ivy League has banned hitting in practices. So has the NFL. I realize we don't play in either of these leagues (though sometimes I think our Board cuffs us like we're an Ivy League school). Point being as has already been mentioned, times have changed. I'd say make off-season and August a real **** in practice.

I respectfully disagree.

A Moffitt Disciple now w Bama.

I know multiple people who played at Bama under Saban and they all have an edge about them even to this day that no one outworked them. There is a reason Bama plays so violent and physically dominates their opponents. The have the best strength program in the country with the best nutrition center. Their players eat like Kings. Look up some of the videos of what they have in their cafeteria daily to eat. Their training rooms are like spas when it comes to recovery. Bama breeds animals from the minute they step on campus. I bet Bama has a better setup than some NFL teams.

And in regards to recruiting, what kid walks into something like this and thinks nahhhh I don’t want to play here.

So my little relative had offers from a grip of SEC schools. Unfortunately, like his daddy, he’s a royal fck up in life and wound up at So Miss after getting dismissed from Auburn, but that’s neither here or there. The lil jit said he loved Bama b/c the football players were treated like gods, but he went to Auburn b/c his baby mama went there and he got some shiny from them.

I read something about their training facility is like 37k in sq ft. Saban made it an emphasis to be mentally stronger than you and physically stronger than you. He runs his program like a Ritz Carlton Boot Camp. Manny needs to instill that culture back in these kids. The moment Golden introduced the ice cream sandmiches, I knew we were screwed. Richt did nothing to help. Think he tried, but the game has passed him way by.

Diaz is an intelligent man and knows Miami history. Can Diaz establish the difficult camp/practice tradition that make Saturday’s feel easier then the rest of the week? I haven’t heard a single player say our practices are more difficult than games since the early 00’s. I’m curious to see what changes Diaz does with our conditioning and practices.
Well, I don't know who you are, but you are certainly correct. I was highly involved with Hurricane athletics, and worked in the dept. for 2 years. JJ, other coaches, are personal friends, as are many former players. When JJ was the coach, you're right about practice being harder than the games. He believed that everyone was in competition for pt every day. He's famous for his message to the players that who you are doesn't matter, it's what you do for me/the team. His message always was that everyday you're either better, or worse, than the day before. I loved to watch middle drill. And intense...I love to tell the story about the practice when Bennie Blades drove his brother, Brian, through the fence that used to surround the practice field!

My initial reaction is to agree with this (bring back hard practices) but then I think of my own game and how much it has evolved over the past ten years, never mind 25 (when I actually played)... Using all the practices allotted is probably a good idea, that burned my ***, always use practice time when you can to get better. That is lazy and unacceptable. Culture has to change in recruiting, I have said my peace on that front. The football side of things I personally leave to guys who coach it, have played it and have a far better understanding of it than I. Hockey evolves dramatically every five years so football is probably no different.

I have been in a couple of these facilities back in the day because of friends who played at Tennessee, Bama etc... but not recently. Bama was lapping people the last 10 years. Tennessee and a few others have some ridiculous facilities also. One thing Richt did try and bring was a nutrition table. I will give him that. The problem is, the university doesn’t have the money to compete with the big boys in regards to training and nutrition. If we can’t compete financially, the head coach has to be a dog and find ways to be creative and outwork the competiton to make up for the lack of other amenities. ****...Bama has a **** barbershop in their facility now. I know this isn’t what makes a player good but it seems one more perk that other schools don’t offer. All this helps with recruiting. Also the have a massive alumni base that grows every year due to the success for the football program. The amount of money pumped into that program is unreal. Here is a video showing your their facilities. It’s better than NFL teams for real.

Not disagreeing with you, I just think Miami needs to focus on something a touch less than Alabama at the moment. Lets walk before we start running ultra's.

Bro; Clemson has something similar. We really need to step our game up. I’m not a hater by any means, but the fact their recruiting center is set up like a high class car dealership is impressive af. I swear if I ever won the Mega or Power Ball, I would chit on the Soffers and dump hella money to re-build this program.

Their donors and admin care about football, in turn, that investment is turning them over hand and fist profits.

Here’s y I’m mad at Miami; they’ve forgotten our culture. This program have wasted more money trying to be cheapthan investing w/in the program and it’s killed us. Then they threw big money at a guy who fired for under performing. Just bad decision after bad decision. Maybe they should be sent these YouTube’s to see how other programs are ran, so they can get a clue. The IPF and the dorms are a start, but let’s get back to winning so we can post relevant stats as well.

Lol; oh no doubt. Touch less is an understatement. We can look at other programs and modify things to enhance, u dig. But we gotta start winning first. We gotta build up our alumni base again. We gotta pump out NFL players that can help reinvest in this program, as well. But totally agree.
