Make Barkate compete for a stating job

Sometimes comments are so overwhelming dumb that it instantly lets you know who to put on ignore
Hey, the wisdom of the crowd agrees with you. I just think we are so deep and so dynamic, I think it is a waste to have 1 of 3 coveted slots wasted on a possession guy. Especially when Mali can handle that role as well or better, and we have better athletes on the outside. I realize that Barkate came to start with Mensah, they are roommates and kind of a package deal. I just think this was the crappy part of the Mensah coup. Hope Im wrong and he goes crazy here.

Wow! Just wait until you realize we are going back to more 12 personal like with Cam. That's 2 WR sets. Obviously, they have to take advantage of 11 personal with this WR room. I believe this offense will adapt and have a knew twist to it this season. I am hoping for some 4 wide sets, also. Dawson has to be a kid in a candy store. Lyle in the pistol just isn't fair. If Mueller can play and run the seam like Arroyo, it's over. The OL better not ruin what this O can be.
Gotta think the offense will look pretty similar to what it has been. With Mario you know the run game is pivotal in how he wants it to operate. So I expect having a TE on the field unless no one emerges as a standout at TE. Four wide would be great, to get as many threats on the field as possible. They could even move some of the bigger bodied receivers to a hybrid role. It will be interesting how it all fits together.

Barkate 15.4 ypc
Mali - 11.1 YPC

Try again

Totally genuine. Guy has not done anything for us yet. I am a little surprised he is such a sacred cow here. But it is what it is.
I agree
I don’t think he’s gonna be wr 1 for us but a solid 2 or 3, he’s proven production, more than any other wr we have so u have to start him so dcs have to game plan him too and not just mali

I don’t know for certain who will start other than Malachi. Everyone else can compete for the jobs.

Isn’t that what you truly want? Because if you are advocating to bench someone rather than letting them compete for a starting job, that is pretty asinine. And I don’t believe you are asinine. I just think your point was less succinct than it could have been.

I don’t think that was the plan. I think the plan was going to be bring in Jacobs and Vaughn with Toney and the rest of the guys we have. Then the Mensah situation came and they saw it could be a 2 for 1 deal so they took barkate too. They definitely going to have to manage that room because it’s going to be some guys mad about not playing
I agree. Barkate was unplanned. But he's an excellent player.

And "safety blankets" for QBs are great. You want your QB to be have great chemistry with a WR.

If there was ever a year to rotate WRs, this is it. We're crazy deep at the spot. Even if we rotate heavily, I'm guessing we have 2-3 guys leave after the year.

Better put than I could have. Thank you. It just seems like Barkate is an in-stone starter. And, given the instant chemistry, maybe that is for the best. I truly would like an open competition more than anything. Thank you for the better rephrase,

Can I change the title of the thread to “make Barkate compete for a starting job”.

I really think your postion is valid but it’s getting lost on people because of the title and you are taking unwarranted insults.

For sure, total upgrade. My feelings are not hurt but I did not intend for it come off so incendiary.

I dont care that Barkate went for over 1k at Duke last year. I worry that he will be the security blanket for Mensah. I think Vaughn, Moore and Jacobs are all better and more dynamic. Ideally, my WR starters are Mali, Vaughn, Moore as starters and Jacobs in 4 wide sets. I will never hope for an injury to any player, especially a Cane, but I think it would be better for the team if Barkate gets real comfy on the bench.

The reason he is taking hits is because he is down playing a guy that has produced in the ACC and has chemistry with our QB while assuming that guys that havent really done **** but flash are better. WR is a position you can show out early, we just saw it with Mali here. Moore hasnt proven much yet here, and Jacobs has flashed here and there in his first 3 years. Vaughn looks like a stud that has produced.

We need to run more 4 wide sets anyway.
Still cant believe we played basically 10 on 11 football all season and it was confired today with Bauman athletic profile being that of 53 year old CIS poster in comparison.. This man ran slower than every olineman basically and weaker than everyone.. He played unbelievable number of snaps and never was challenged..

Im still disgusted by what the TE coach did to TEU..
