Lyle

If our offense is as good as we think it may be, we may get close to 70+ snaps per game. If half those snaps nare allotted to the run game, thats more than enough snaps for each rb to get some decent burn.

The problem is as it has been since Mario got here until the last half of last season was we do not put teams away and end up having to lean on the run and one or two backs.

Put these kids away early and let everybody eat.

I don’t think that can be stated enough. Mensah is a huge pick up with the line being in transition.
As for RB it’s been fascinating to watch the devaluation of the position over the years.
While, I admit, I’m not a big NFL fan I couldn’t name three starting rb’s right now.
Barkley, Gibbs, McCaffrey but it wasn't easy

*These were two of Mario’s dudes when he played. He knows what it is supposed to look and feel like.
However the passing game needs some explosives like it did in those days, too.
Gino averaged almost 16 yards per completion in 1991, Beck averaged 11 last year.
Cam Ward averaged 14 in '24.
Mensah averaged 11.9 last year.

So if the runs are 1st down moving thumpers (James Jackson types, BUT NOT HIS BROTHER) someone has to take the top off, too.

Toney averaged 11ypc, Jacobs 17, Barkate 15.4, Moore 12, and Vaughn 15.5
Compared to OSU's big two at 14.3 and 17.2 with 21 TD's

Miami in '25: Toney 11.1, Daniels 13.1, and Marion 11.1 with 19 TD's
Lamar Thomas- 16 and 6 TD's in '91
Horace Copeland- 19.1 with 4 TD's in '91
Kevin Williams- 15.7 and 3 TD's in '91

I can't believe we have an RB room of Fletcher, Pringle, Brown, Lyle, Mallory, and CWH. Insanely deep - my guess is 1 would have transferred in spring but since that window is now gone, they are basically stuck here which is awesome and salute to them for competing for carries. How I see it shaking out: 1) you redshirt Mallory and glue CWH to the bench 2) Fletcher is the guy, he's the alpha and deserves the opportunity to carry the load. 3) I see Brown as the direct backup to Fletcher 4) Pringle and Lyle as the change of pace backs, use them on kick return, use them on special teams, give them series when Fletcher needs a break. You need one of them to separate.

ehhh, in most of those games Lyle only got 1 or 2 carries and as we all know, most RBs need a few runs before they truly get going. Lyle never got those opportunities like Fletcher did.

Also, how come we're omitting the USF game when Lyle went 6 for 104 (17.3 avg)? That's 2 games that year where Lyle went for over 100 yds (in 7 and 6 carries respectively) when Fletcher didn't do it once.

And i'm a HUGE fletcher fan btw; he's an amazing Cane. But to say Lyle being RB1 was "disrespectful" to Fletcher based off what they both did in 2024 and what the coaches saw behind the scenes during practice, it's not fair either. JMO.
On the surface - I completely agree with you. The 2 100 yd games you mention were great games - but we won them by 28 & 35 points.

It's when you take a closer look at Lyle - too many questions/red flags pop up:

Why has Lyle never averaged 4 ypc vs a 5+ win P4 team? He's 0 for 10

Why has Lyle never averaged 4 ypc in a game we won by 20 or less? He's 0 for 8

When Lyle's had 5+ carries in a game vs a P4 team why doesn't he average 4 ypc? He's 1 for 8 (Wake Forest - 16.4 ypc)

If Lyle was so good in 2024, why was he used so little? He had 6 carries vs UF, then 6 carries over the next 6 P4 games.

Why was Ajay Allen higher on the depth chart in the middle of 2024? Allen was ahead of Lyle games 7 & 8 in 2024 (Louisville & FSU)

That's a dumb way of looking at things, because it is factually incorrect. If that were the case we'd have the #1 HS recruiting class in the country yearly, and the top portal Class. We don't.
Thank you for your insightful response. The dumb way of looking at things is believing $ can ALWAYS get you the #1 HS recruiting class and the top portal class.

He must have been really good in practice for them to start him week 1. Or they were just hoping he took over the room
