USF is absolutely not a cupcake. That's the best G5 team and don't be surprised if the beat UF
If anyone watched that game, did anyone notice how far off Boise was from last years team, like UNLV? They can't be the best G5 teams this year. Golesh and Brown should be a good opponent for a half at the Rock.
Mario said in his press conference, Lyle should be good for practice today.

No we would have to sh*t the bed but it's possible.
I haven't done the 2025 roster comparison yet, but I would say that without significant improvements, USF will have a notably harder time with us this year than they did last year. Our defensive changes should mitigate USF's theoretical strengths, and the issues that made it a very close game in the first half last year.

They will also be just a week removed from playing Florida.

From your mouth to God's ears. The tears would be glorious.

Easily is a tad bit of a stretch good sir. But they're certainly no cup cake. I'll say that. One thing I wanna see out of heatherman here is how he adapts to a clearly heavy dose of a mobile QB. They'll be that first test. That'll let us know how we should feel going into the ufag game, the poo game & vag tech. This week I saw a lil concern out of it. But thats more than likely simply cause we had no concerns after the first half about him keeping it opposed to heavy does of love and co. Defense did an amazing job of limiting them overall.
How much of that was related to having no film of Carr?

All week I heard here that Carr isn't mobile. I actually watched some HS highlights of the kid and posted that he was far more mobile than folks were giving him credit for but he did not appear to be a willing runner either. (A lot like Cam in that sense.) I was surprised at the designed QB runs. You think that surprised Heatherman?

I thought the line would be a little closer. -18.5
They’re not that good, they beat an overrated Boise team. Boise gifted them 5 fumbles, 3 of which came in the first half I believe and it was only a 3 point game going into half. Boise had the ball nearly 36 minutes, we should be able to impose our will on them.

I think it caught us a lil off guard. All the same they already showed a propensity for the QB designed runs. So it shouldn't have been more than a huh so he's implementing that as a disguise moment.

The best thing about facing USF so early is it should show us what we'll be dealing with when we face other QBs who are capable of pulling it down and running. We didn't expect it out of Carr, and ND's OL is one of the better ones we'll see this year.

Seeing what we do against USF's Brown will help us gauge what Lagway/Castellanos will be able to do against our front 7 in the run game. Hetherman and Co. need to clean that stuff up some.

We'll be dealing with QBs that can run and are a planned part of the run game a decent amount this year. USF, UF, FSU, SMU, VT - all have QBs they include in the run game quite often.

South Florida looked okay.
Their down to down efficiency wasn’t good.
15 first downs all game.
5-14 on third down.
Won the turnover battle 3-0.
Got a TD on a fake punt.

Are they going to be +3 in TO margin and get special team TDs week after week? Probably not.
Their down to down success rate is what will carry over week to week.

Yes. It was two weak teams flailing at each other.

Yeah Boise was overrated just like Alabama. But USF is pretty good. They gave us a tough game in the first half last year. Which isn’t saying a whole lot considering our defense was way worse than it seemed around on.

Yeah, USF is no joke this year. Especially that D. If we don't step on their necks early, this could turn into a game we don't want any part of.
