Luke Nickel last night

I feel like we operating at a different clip as a program. And a qb like him will never be a qb 1 here unless there is an injury. We looking for elite qualities now, it’s like bama during their era where they always had an elite qb or they got one.
Yeah I seen a horrible decision to toss it in double coverage when he got picked off

We have a formula until a 5 star comes in and shows it from day 1

Green Tree All-American > MVP of FAMU game
The guy made a great point. Nickel won't learn much against FAMU. OTOH, we don't want him to have to go in against Clemson on an emergency basis, now do we? So he needs as much Garbage Time as possible running the offense.

But he really needs to connect with WR's on some long stuff and show the kind of promise he did during his GA State Championship Run.

The staff has zero ability to develop QB talent.

They can build a system around them, but we need someone else to develop them first.
Dawson does strike me more as a schemer/play caller vs developer.

As for Nickel, I’d like to see him get a number of first down passes. When we run it on first down w/backup, I feel like they are playing behind the sticks.

We need to be 100 percent confident in him or go portal shopping.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I have absolutely no problems recruiting a stud from the portal over anyone on the roster, or that plans to be on the roster.

Proof of concept is there.

I want to win and don’t gaf who is under center.

Go Canes.

Nickels not the guy. Neither is Coleman.

If you're not as good as Beck last year, you cant play here. A precedent has been set.

Cant waste Toneys last year.

Dereon Coleman has a better chance IMO especially if he can put on a little weight
And he doesn't have the time it seems, if they dont let him play CIS and social media will be in an uproar. Thing is if they dont give him the keys we know why, Mario has gained enough trust that I trust if he seen it in practice and doesn't think it will work then it wont work

Trumpycane knows it was a small sample size but he looked competent

Made 2 pretty good throws moving and showed some zip

INT was just a good play by the Stanford guy, honestly like he dropped it but it what it is

Trumpycane knows it’s a low bar but he looked way better than Emory ever did
The big difference to my eye - Emory was solid against inferior competition but basically lost it once teams could create a dirty pocket. Im thinking this is why he won the job and did well in practice, where QBs are protected.

Luke on the other hand seems to hold up better in game action, he might be a net positive on the move compared to other QBs

That’s what he looked like in the Spring and in the Fall.

I don’t know what about the coverage he saw that triggered a deep shot down the sideline into double coverage, but that’s what he’s been doing in practice.

He doesn’t process fast enough to make plays like Ward, Beck, and Mensah.

He also doesn’t have the arm strength to overcome that limitation at this level.

He’ll be another JAG that gets processed and leaves.
I think this is a really good and honest assessment of Nickel so far.

He did the same thing last year in limited action as a freshman. He was only in a couple games and I think only attempted 2 passes. Both were deep shots down the field and incomplete. He just throws it deep when he has time to throw. He was 3-5 last night. Two of those completions were the hurried passes to Wingo. Great throws for being under pressure, but he had no choice. Give Wingo credit too, as he probably broke off his route and he became the "hot" receiver knowing Nickel got instant pressure. His 3rd completion was that tunnel screen to Parris, which was his only read for that play.

So, if Nickel is not rushed and the play is not a designed screen or something similar, he is going to throw it deep.

but we will learn a lot from FAMU. if he can’t do big things against FAM, then it becomes obvious we need to look elsewhere.

so more de-confirmatory than confirmatory evidence

Emory couldn’t win the starting job at ecu lol..Who exactly were the qbs you guys expected them to develop? If anything it’s an evaluation problem
I think bad talent evaluation is still hurting us at a lot of positions. Last years class and this upcoming class seem much better, but still too many underperformers from the older classes.

'toss' is generous...float is more accurate.

Looked like someone who didnt have the arm so he threw it as high as he could.
