Luck of the Irish

Hi hate the Irish. They were extremely lucky that Clemson was down so many players for this game and they got to play at home. That said Ian Book played an amazing game as did Clemson. Unfortunately now it is likely that Notre Dame will Face Clemson in the title game. They may possibly when the ACC the 1st and only year they are in it. That really sucks.
I hate the Irish as much as anyone, but they weren't lucky. They were better coached, competitive in the trenches and made plays when it counted. Until we bring in qualified coaching personnel we'll never compete at this level. FACT!

Clemson got bested at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Even with two overtimes, Clemson finished with 34 rushing yards. Travis Etienne had 18 rushes for 28 yards and one touchdown. His longest run was 13 yards. Clemson's 34 yards on the ground were its lowest since 2011 vs. N.C. State.

Clemson allowed 10 tackles for loss, which would rank No. 119 of 123 teams if it was an average-per-game.

Clemson allowed 209 rushing yards, Clemson's most surrendered most since the 2016 national championship game.

Clemson's front didn't do a good job of containing Ian Book when he escaped the pocket to throw or run. Book had 64 rushing yards on 14 rushes. He was only sacked twice, and one was a coverage sack.

"We couldn't contain their quarterback," Swinney said. "We knew third down was going to be critical, and they won that battle. Struggled containing the quarterback all night. He bought time, bought time, bought time. Extended plays and found some guys and made some big runs and scrambles."

Notre Dame was 10-of-19 on third down.

Uiagalelei completed 29-of-44 passes for 439 yards with two passing touchdowns.
It was the most passing yards vs. an AP top 5 team in Clemson history.

His total broke the school freshman record of 435, set by Deshaun Watson.

ND's game plan was to stop the run and see if the QB can beat them.
In the end, he couldn't even though he threw for 400.
If ND goes into the acccg with the same approach, which they won't, TL throws for 500.

And would Lawrence REALLY have had a better performance than what he had yesterday?

I hate them too, but I had to admire how their O-line led them onto the field, because that's how they won the game (yeah I know Clemson's 3 starters were out, but they claim 4-5 star "next up" all the time). They were able to effectivley run the ball to set up the big throws when they needed them.

Miami will never get back on track with average or below O-lines. A cohesive unit of great O-linemen are the hardest athletes to assemble from Pop Warner to the NFL.
