LSU Looking to hire Blake Baker *Update* BAKER TO LSU

Playing the result, yes Baker was a disaster. But working off the context of the time, Manny hired a DC who was for all intents and purposes a young and promising G5 DC. The guy was 35 and had success at La. Tech. Furthermore, Manny knew the guy so this hire seemed less risky especially since the guy would run what Manny theoretically was already running. On paper it made sense, but it didn't play out that way, unfortunately. What matters now is the next hire that is what Manny should be judged by more than anything else.
I wasn’t playing the result when I said we’d have to watch manny make mistakes as a first time head coach and that’s what he’s done , he completely failed hiring both sides of the ball his first go round. That’s just facts.

I defend manny more than most but I’ll also rip him when it’s called for. The positive is he realizes pretty fast when he’s messed up. Regardless this is sink or swim time.

My bad I didn't mean you as much as I meant others in the crowd. I should have been more explicit on that part of my reply.

That’s why I was so confident there’d be changes with play calling. I’ve posted this before but I was told after year one manny was very unimpressed with BB, to the point he’d pulled the trigger then if not for already firing the offensive staff. He’s been baby sitting him two years. That was enough.
You mentioned before Manny had to take over play calling a few times with Baker. Do you know which games?

But it’s definitely a red flag he’s moving on from so many coaches.

I think it's also a sign that he's not going to risk his career for others.

On paper, Diaz didn't make atrocious hires. Enos was coming from record setting years at Bama. Enos was not objectively a horrible choice (though I do wish Diaz had gone with a spread OC but he corrected quickly). Diaz wasn't going to tell his OC who to put on his offensive staff. The two worst picks, Barry and Stubblefield were both Enos handpicked dudes as he'd worked with them before. Butch Barry was coming from the NFL so it didn't look horrible. Stubblefield I can't explain and thought it was bad. Hickson and Field were very good so not a total bust on that side. On defense, Baker was viewed as one of the most promising up and coming DCs (he was even mentioned on LSU boards as a replacement for Aranda after the 2019 season!) It wasn't a homerun, but not an objectively terrible hire. Simpson- top notch hire. Banda- just left for a promotion to DC, so you can't say he was a failure. Patke- meh, but as others have said he's a strong X's and O's guy. Then there's Rumph. I agree he shouldn't have been retained, but as you know there was a lot going on behind the scenes that handcuffed Diaz. I think he wanted to move on from Rumph but couldn't. Just because things don't work out doesn't mean it's fair to say Diaz picked an entire staff full of unqualified coaches. Some of those were his OC's choices (which is normal for a HC to allow a coordinator to pick his own staff especially on the opposite site of the HC's specialty). As someone else said, it's playing the results to say they were terrible hires now.
