Lowered Expectations...

We pay more $ for coaches than UVA, Duke and GT. We have had and for the foreseeable future, will have significantly more talent than them. We still lost to them. Get a competent coaching staff in and we’ll be winning at minimum 9-10 games every year and we will get top 10 recruiting classes like last year.Do that consistently and we can compete on a national level again. We don’t need “bags” or Nick Saban to beat Duke.

We had bags when we were elite. I feel sorry for fans that never knew the old canes, and who have bought in to the “new miami” propaganda.

Man. These kids don’t even know.

In 1991, every one of our kids was on steroids, and whatever else they could get. We had a strength staff that literally supplied the players and helped them shoot up.

That’s part of the reason we were so **** aggressive and dominant - massive roid rage.

We played the bag game like nobody’s business. We dropped more bags than Samsonite.

The Miami everybody remembers and loved were the dirtiest program in college football. The BOT at the time were savages. Howard, Jimmy, etc were savages.

We deserved our reputation as a corrupt, dirty team...and we loved the **** out of them.

Miami in those days was the funnest team to watch in any sport, of all time. We dominated and we gave zero ***** doong so. We had elite, roided up kids being coached by the best coaches in America.

And i’m not saying that just as a canes fan....everyone was entertained.

Miami today is not even remotely the same. Duke has more savages than Miami. It’s not the same program it used to be.

Roid rage is a myth that has been debunked many many times.

False.

We’re paying less for Manny Diaz than we paid Larry Coker nearly 20 years ago, in real dollars.

I don’t give a **** what we SAY we’re WILLING to pay...talk is cheap. I care what we DO pay.

We have a green, bargain-basement staff. Hope it works out, but hope is a ****** strategy.
larry coker wasn't paid 3.1 mil I don't know what u are smoking but him/randy/golden were all under 2 mil and all were on cheap. there staffs were some of lowest paid in college football Miami has never paid there coaches not coker not the staff the way they did under richt

Gtfoh if you think Coker was making more then 3.1 that Diaz is getting or the 4.5 Richt was getting. It’s facts he wasn’t making that much. Look it up fool! And we’ve have never paid more for support staff then we have with Richt. Again another fact! The admin gave Richt everything he needed to win and he didn’t because he’s a stubborn old man stuck in the 90s who was more interested in nepotism and helping out his buddies. Just because he failed doesn’t mean the admin didn’t give him everything he needed to win. And further more was gonna give him all the money he wanted to hire a star OC before he changed his mind about firing his son and resigned. I swear dumb@$$ fans like you who know nothing about what your talking about make this blog insufferable sometimes. Do some research moron. Richt is the higest paid coach Miami has ever had, not Coker!

Okay, the Duke having more savages than Miami thing is just blasphemous, but besides that u have a point. We are not the same program that we used to be. If we truly want to be back we have to take our identity of "the bad boys" back. We are too concerned about PR. We need to get the best coach/player available regardless if he comes with baggage or not. We need to do whatever it takes to win, and I do mean WHATEVER.

I disagree they are spending more on football then ever before. Miami actually is mid pack now in football spending something we couldn't say 5 yrs ago. this coaching staff isn't fully together but blake james knew who he wanted and went and got him and paid the 4 mil buyout to do so. this administration forced richt to fire guys and that's why he retired no other admin in Miami history would of done that to a guy of richt's stature if anything this is the most commited I have seen the Miami administration in 30 yrs the president actively worked against jimmy Johnson back in day so for Miami this is as commited to winning as ive seen an administration at miami

The admin didn’t actively work against Jimmy.

What happened is that Jimmy is a hardass alpha dog, and disagreements are in his nature. He had the same issues with Jerry Jones at Dallas.

Miami have tried to re-write the past. That 39-for-30 was full of **** in a lot of ways.

Fact is, in the old days, Miami ran a dirty program that would make today’s Alabama look like a choir boy. And Miami’s admin was actively a part of it.

We wanted a grwat football team because it put Miami on the map.

Today, not so much. We’ve tried to forget about and whitewash our past. But thise of ys who remember....well we know.

I never said we didn’t have bags. We don’t need bags to beat the mediocre teams we lost to this year. And recruits don’t even need bags to help decide between committing to 7-6 Miami or 14-0 Alabama. That just requires common sense.

These offensive staff hires. Will let us no where we stand for the next 3 years.

Going for excellence in basketball is much more commensurate with the resources and demographics of a small, private school like Miami. Only a dozen or so scholarships needed, on-campus arena exists already, we're already in a predominantly basketball league, etc.

De-emphasizing football would easily allow for more than is needed to have a top basketball program. A NC in football has become a bridge too far.

First of all - most forget that even when we were "the team" .... we still had challenges
- 2001 Team SHOULD have lost at BC and also Va Tech

Second - being back is about getting to the playoffs - last year we were a game away from doing that even though
- Lost our best player (walton) early in the year
- Had a VERY subpar QB and weak OL
- Lost our best WR and TE late in the year
- Had a weak head coach, OL coach and apparently strength coach

You fix a few of the above and my friends are you are playing Clemson close in the 4th qtr and then anything can happen

Richt, sure...but he’s not the coach, is he?

I don’t know what Manny is making.

We were paying Coker 2.4 million back then, which is equal to about 3.3 million dollars adjusted for inflation.

Too bad for them, they’re not close to elite on the academic side.

Hope springs eternal, but there are no facts supporting the argument that Manny will be any different from Richt, Golden, Shannon, or Coker.

It takes more than a head coach. It takes an entire operation....and that requires money, commitment, and mindset. We’re batting 0/3 in those categories.

In the education world Miami is known to be an elite academic school, especially the medical program. There are no facts supporting that Manny will be a busy either. The fact is his legacy at Miami is still TBD. His legacy will greatly depend on the support he gets from the University. He's the son of a politician, so he knows all about playing dirty. Let's hope he doesn't play checkers while Bama, Clemson, Georgia etc are playing chess.

Except nobody gives a **** about basketball, unless you live in Indiana, Los Angeles, or an inner city up north.

99% of the country change the channel when baseball or basketball come on.

If you consider a top-100 school to be elite, then OK.

Let’s hope you’re right about Manny. I’m hoping, but not expecting.

Here’s the link dummy. Diaz is making 3.1 which makes him the second highest paid coach we’ve ever had. Again do some research first before you come on here and spew your lies and agenda. All you do is make yourself look stupid and loose any credibility you might of had. Facts!

Speak for yourself, Fred. Not true.

CFB is quickly becoming an SEC-centric sport. Has no traction in the Northeast, little in the Mid-Atlantic, or on the West Coast. Midwest -- interest in football and hoops about even.

If you want a winner at Miami, much more likely to come in basketball than football.

Being “back” is about winning national titles.

Old Canes wouldn’t have given a **** about the playoffs. They wouldn’t be satisfied unless they were winning ships.

If we had made the playoffs last year, we would have gotten smoked by any of the other 3 teams. Miami last year was a mirage...we got lucky on some miracle plays by Langham and others.

2018 is more representative of where Miami is today.

We’re closer to duke than Clemson
Duke kicked our ***, dropped a big deuce on our 50 yard line and rubbed our noses in it...and aside from our fans...I didn’t see anyone care about it. So we aren’t even at Dukes level...more like temple actually. I do think Manny cares and has the right attitude to get us going in the right direction...And to get the kids to care again.
