love the move to pringle ...

Im not sure what youre looking at if you think Lyle is our most talented anything. Based on what? What you see at practice? He looks mid in practice, too. I assure you. You don't look like he looks in games and look dramatically different in practice. He's a can crusher and really isn't a back for this level of ball in this kind of offense.

Lyle's an elite pass blocker. Don't underestimate how extremely important that is

Did you guys see Pringle? He should be starting.

Sometimes all you need is a spark. I remember years and years ago, we had a kid named Lorenzo Lingard. He bided his time, and then against Savannah State, we unleashed him. Bang. Kid had close to 100 yards, a couple touchdowns, and was well on his way to a Hall of Fame career. You could tell that day the kid was the goods. Same as Pringle.

No respect for Storm Johnson?

That’s fair

Martinez struggled early last year adjusting to our offense before he got rolling

Remember people saying he had no vision?

I am all for running back rotations but one of my gripes with it under Mario is it feels predetermined

Running backs need rest but they also need reps to get into rhythm and I don’t think we do a good job with that
And to think we could still have Martinez. Wish he would’ve stayed.

That could have worked out so well for both parties. I wonder if Martinez got a do over, if he would have stayed?

Hopefully its a lesson learned for the staff too, because it did feel like last year we were putting all our eggs in a Lyle breakout this year instead of being open to other options like the portal or trying to do more to run it back with Martinez, who was a KNOWN asset.

100% agree on all your points. Can't keep crowning dudes based on practices.

D$ is a fan running a fan site. I expect some level of sunshine pumping. I'm not sure how much he actually believes what he's saying.

The concern is D$ is connected to the program. If the people responsible for evaluating our talent are actually thinking/believing the same thing - then we have BIG issues.

So....

When I say - "Is Fletcher Homer/Dallas/Martinez? No" - D$ says "Fletcher is firmly in that group"

When D$ Says - "In terms of NFL potential, Lyle is as good as we've had since Lamar Miller"
I said - "People will pretty quickly see Fletcher is a notch above Lyle once the season starts. IMO as Lyle gets more meaningful carries against better teams, he'll look a little more vanilla"

That's a problem if D$'s just echoing what people in the program think. It's crazy it took so long to see it with Lyle.

To your point when you say "Lyle argument falls apart the second Pringle hits the field and looks better than him" - I 100% agree. But it never should have gotten to that point.

Lyle averaged under 4 ypc in 6 of his last 7 games before Syracuse....SO WE MAKE LYLE THE STARTER FOR SYRACUSE??? Why are we rewarding poor play? The coaches should've identified Pringle needed more touches WAY before Syracuse.
This all you had to say. I come for his recruiting updates, not so much for his evaluations, which feel more propaganda vs true scouting analysis.

True on all accounts. Lyle trying to hold the staff hostage if we brought guys in should never be allowed to happen again.

I've been saying that the fault with the running game woes isn't with the OL or even play calling, mostly, it's bad vision and inability to hit holes. They finally spread things out and tried to run out of that instead of tight bunched formations and it still didn't work that well....until they used Pringle.
Pringle is the best back. If we landed elite RB recruits the run game would look better

It's absolutely been the play calling.

The TD Pringle had, perfect call against what the defense called. Every running back on the team scores on that one. Syracuse was lost on that play, zero chance to stop it.

Same with the run up the middle. They didn't have the numbers there and he hit the hole hard.

Kid did what he was asked, but the plays called and the way they're designed have been the number one issue for sure.
I don't think Lyle or Brown score. Pringle would have scored against SMU on the play Brown ran towards the wrong side. Walk in TD with Pringle

Coach Don Soldinger said Lyle is it, a big time talent. If Solly thinks he is all that I'm not ready to give up on him. I think it's just a lost season for him due to his early injury.

Soldinger also thinks its smart to hang out with Nevin Shapiro so TrumpyCane doesn't think he knows it all

No respect for Storm Johnson?

Storm Johnson - 71 yd run vs USF
Joe Yearby - 64 yd run vs FAMU
Joe Yearby - 62 yd run vs Cincinnati
Mark Walton - 80 yd run vs App St
Mark Walton - 82 yd run vs Toledo

One thing we know for sure....

It's impossible to break long runs vs Non-P4 teams without being an elite athlete & stud RB

Feels like this happens every year with the freshman RB. They get some burn, look fast and decisive, break a big run or two, then they end up running like lyle the following year.

Lyle been running like this. That big run did not change anything.

Lyle is has no feel….when he needs to be patient….hes like road runner to the hole….and when he has daylight, he cuts back or stutter steps his timing is always off.
This seems to be a theme in our running back room. We have guys who are physically talented but seem to lack the vision and patience of a great running back. We have guys who run into tacklers instead of the open field . I don’t know if this stuff is coachable or if it’s all instinct but it’s a reoccurring theme here. Our game plan of “just run into the pile and push forward for four yards” probably stunts a lot of these guys’ development. The only guy we’ve had who seemed capable of running patiently between the tackles was Martinez and he was a one year rental. Fletcher has shown some signs but tends to fall into bad habits for just putting his head down and plowing forward too often.

Come on, man. You can’t just dismiss the entire concept known as “Greentree All-American” with a simple wave of the hand.
