Lost in the Shuffle

I honestly loved most of the guys we did sign and there were a few I liked that I think will just need time. My issue is is the low number of kids. We have holes all over the roster for various reasons and I don't think we did enough to fill them. For the most part, the same holes still exists but we just put a band aid on them.

This is not on the kids. I’m happy with the kids that want to play for this university. Bless them to have great careers and accomplish their dreams of playing in the NFL. These kids run the plays their coaches tell them to run and those plays are not up to par. Those plays won’t even beat the f($&ing Dukes of the world. We had a great class and Mork lost it. Manny was not going to sit around and let top 5 defenses go to waste while our incompetent HC runs an offense that Knute Rockne used to run. For all the high rated kids that went elsewhere, I don’t blame them one bit. When Manny saw Mork say he was going to continue to call plays, he looked for the first ride out of Miami and thankfully for him, he got one.

He doesn’t have to be great to start for us, lol. That’s how pathetic our tackle situation is.
Don’t forget how good the OL class was last year. Campbell is a OT all the way. Reed is going to be a beast at OG. Scaife could play RT, too. It’s more about whipping those guys into good shape and coaching good technique.

Our overall performance yesterday was an abomination, but we did land a few of players that I think are going to help us a lot in the future.

For instance, that Butler tackle everyone was clowning looks like a solid signature. When you have programs like OU and Auburn chasing you, it means you’re — at the very least — an above average player. He’s a plug and play guy; maybe will even be an upgrade over St. Louis.

I’m not here to pump sunshine because this staff deserves all the heat they’re getting, but we shouldn’t lose sight of the kids who signed up to be Canes that can help this program. Take solace in the few victories we have, gentleman.
Most people have the glass is more than half empty perspective with all the negative news/stuff going on. Winning is the solution to it all, just a question of whether the players can preform & coaches can teach/improve the product as is.

The Butler kid is only here for one season and is undersized. I don't understand the hype surrounding him. When you miss on Neal (future LT for 3 years), getting an FCS kid for 1 year is something to be happy about
Regardless of the background, youve got to be smoking some danke sh-t to think we were ever beating out Bama for a kid like Neal. The comments that this should have been some "layup" for us are absolutely absurd. Its not the 80s or 90s or early 2000s. Miami has sucked for a decade and a half while Bama has made arguably the best run in cfb history. Why WOULD Neal choose us over the tide right now?!?

Its insane clinging onto the past pipe dreams, man. We have to show the current young generation what a winning miami team looks like before we can expect to land super studs like that. And when it comes to a 5 star o lineman, we dont have a chance in **** to land them over bama right now no matter who they are or where theyre from. Sucks, but its the truth.

Great post. Winning will definitely help. We won last year and missed on key guys last year as well. I just feel its impossible to get every blue chip down here. Unless a kid is die hard, parents are diehard, no stragglers around the kid and family were not gonna beat bama for a kid they WANT/NEED. And that's just the way it is. The staff didn't whiff on Neal. Canes just don't have the recruiting resources to keep up with the big dawgs.

Missing Neal was inexcusable. No doubt.
Inexcusable on what standard?!? Give me one reason why Neal would choose Miami in the condition we are in over Alabama in the situation they are in. One. I'll wait.

It sucks we have fallen this far, but its our current reality. To think there was some staffer that would have pulled Neal in over Bama when all was said and done is absolutely ridiculous. He would be an idiot to come to Coral Gables right now over Tuscaloosa.

Tommy Kennedy is a bandaid on a hatchet wound.

He's not bad, but I think his stock rose a little high because he was really the only starting LT grad transfer with real experience, snaps, and starts. Its needed here, but just saying...a bit of artificial inflation.

I think I salute the kids who signed here yesterday more than anybody. Things aren't good, but they believe that they can help bring Miami back to greatness. I highly respect that they believe even when things aren't looking good.

We did get some kids that can play for sure - both of the transfers look like they can play here (esp. Asa Martin). Payton is, to me, a future star at WR (IF we can figure out our offense). The defensive signings were legit - I think you've got a bunch of future starters there between K. Smith, Brooks, Harvey, Couch, Huff, Blissett, Munoz...as long as you don't get caught star gazing and see the potential all of those guys have...they're all good signings and good fits for us and what we do on defense. I'm also excited for our Chopper Read version of a punter...that dude looks legit.

The questions are all on offense. How good is Hodges? Can he compete for PT with our trio of TE's we'll have next season (counting Irvin Jr there)? Can Searels coach up the OL that we ended up landing, turn them into ACC-capable players (doubtful, I know)? Can we somehow land any other players that can help on offense between now and NSD 2.0 in February?

I know there are other questions, but those are the ones that are most current, IMO.

I'm not mad about who we've got. Even the projects on the OL are OK takes for me. One can be happy with the kids that have signed here and still be upset at the staff for not pulling other major prospects that we needed to pull in this cycle...and upset at them for the overall state of affairs after a 7-5 season.

We were leading for Neal until the abomination of a season we just had. My point is we have not landed any good high school lineman.

Zion Nelson won't be ready for 3 years
Jakai Clark is an average center prospect
The Butler kid is here for one season, he is simply plugging a hole that will be open again next december

Oh I'm with you, the lack of linemen we have gotten is going to impact us bigtime for years to come. And I know the back story of Neal. I'm just taking issue with those (not directed at you) who continue to talk about "whiffing" on Neal and some have even said it should have been a "layup" for Richt. I just find that absolutely ridiculous. I honestly cannot think of ONE legit reason why I would choose Miami in 2019 over Bama if I were a 5-star o lineman. So that's not a whiff or a layup, it's a sad reflection of how far we have to go.

Right, but the problem is our program is such a deterrent at the moment. If we were still trending in the right direction, he’d most likely be a Cane.

Dmoney said it in this thread yesterday. Even in bad years we signed championship caliber defensive players. This year is no different imo
