Looks like Blake James spoke with a few press members today

Until he’s speaking to the press about why it took so long to be fired, it means absolutely nothing. #wegressionU #goPack

You know what’s unacceptable? Taking 0 time to hire a dude with Randy Shannon’s resumè and paying Temple $4M out of the budget to do so. Then claiming you have no money to fire and hire an experienced, successful coach.

“Manny is our head coach. Obviously this has been a disappointing season. Manny would acknowledge that. Our guys would acknowledge that. And I understand that the fans acknowledge that. “The last two losses have been very tough. The team has fought to the very end. And while those games could have easily gone our way and we’d be sitting here at 4-2 and 2-0 [in the Atlantic Coast Conference], they didn’t go our way.

“We need to win games. Manny knows we need to win games. And he and his coaching staff are doing everything they can to put our guys in position to win games.’’ The Hurricanes (2-4, 0-2 ACC), off to their worst start since 1997, meet No. 18 NC State at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (ESPN2) at Hard Rock Stadium. Going into the NC State game, Diaz, 47, is 16-14 since he became the head coach at Miami before the 2019 season. The Herald asked Diaz if the NC State game could affect Diaz’s job status. “Every game affects the evaluation of a job,’’ James said. “Again, dating back to his time over the years, every game you play affects your status. It strengthens it in certain games and obviously challenges it in others. Every game is part of the evaluation of someone’s job status.’’

James was then asked why he has decided not to replace Diaz at this time, considering the reality of where UM is as a football program. “Because I don’t think that’s the best decision for the University of Miami football program,’’ James said. Why not? James: “When you look at Year One obviously there were some real challenges in Manny’s head coaching. He would acknowledge that. It was a tough finish for us with the three losses to end the season. “Year two the team significantly improved (3:58) and had a great year overall. Obviously a very disappointing and frustrating loss to North Carolina and a battle with Oklahoma State that didn’t go our way. But calling it for what it is, an 8-2 regular- season record and loss in the bowl game.

“And this year has been disappointing on all accounts. “We need to win more and Manny knows we need to win more and that’s what he’s focused on. But my job is to support him in doing that and part of that is getting ready to play North Carolina state tomorrow.”
Sounds like he knows both of their jobs are on the line as each game passes

From the ESPN interview:

James also would not say whether he would make any in-season coaching changes.

"It's too hard to look into the future," James said. "I don't know what's going to happen, again. I think everyone's constantly being evaluated, and you make the decisions that you feel are best for the program."

"There's a lot of things that go into evaluating, where are we with the team, the development, the growth, what are we seeing from the young people in the program, what are we doing in recruiting?" James said. "There's a laundry list of things that's part of the evaluation. Winning's right at the top. And that's something that's always going to be something that we have to evaluate in our programs here at the University of Miami, and right now, we're not winning enough."

"We're committed to winning as an institution," he said. "So whatever that means it's going to take, I have full confidence that's the step our institution is going to take. Whether that's from a financial decision on coaching salaries to financial decisions on what we need to do [to] operate as a program again, the institution is very committed to seeing this athletics program succeed at the highest level, and they're committed to doing what it takes to compete with the very best."

Had a random morning curiosity after reading this quote from Flake but.......FUN FACT, in 2021 against P5 opponents, Miami has held the lead for roughly 6 and a half minutes in the entire season, and that moment was against Michigan State, from 10:19 to 3:36 in the 2nd quarter.

He mentioned we need to win games and shower zero backing of Manny. He could have gone on to say that it’s hard to win and build a program and we believe in Manny etc. he didn’t.
Or… he was fired the day after MSU, but Manny Sr got involved and persuaded the powers that be to allow Jr to finish the season before the firing is announced.

At best, he is posturing to intrigue potential coaches that may be on the fence. At worst, he is simply placating the fan base to try and quieten the noise and buy some time while he figures out what the heck he is doing. Either way, it doesn't look great for our current "coach" and is apparent he knows he has to do something. The big question is no longer if, but when.

Oh but don’t call Andrew a troll and/or slurper. His mods will give you an infraction and delete the post. Just like B.Shames, he’s got hounds protecting him.

As for B.Shames, his exile back to Maine can’t come soon enough.

I hope we lose every remaining game by at least 21 points. Unfortunately, with the ACC being so bad, I think Diaz will win some games and some of the losses will be close.

I don't know if you own this site or if you get any $$$ off of it. But, this is the exact reason why I'm not giving $25 to you or whomever, because of the bull**** you post.
Huh, ITU is a premium site that sells access to content. All of our content is free.

Relax, he only said what every other AD at any other school would say if they were in our position.....oh, wait, except LSU AD.
