Looking back, reliance on the Portal revealed the state of the program last season.

The program was in a bad place with the available talent/culture.

CMR knew what he had coming back with the O-line (and D-line, DBs to an extent). He **** sure knew the top two QBs in the program couldn't beat out a guy he himself told would never play at Miami.

If he was wavering at all, the team's effort in the bowl game cemented it for him.

Why do you think he left? You think a 745 winning percentage coach was going to do another year to continue tarnishing his overall legacy as a HC?

Manny knew what it was too, he bolted, but it was a chance to get his foot into the door as HC. That’s why he had to jump right into the Portal (desperate for a Q, and was desperate enough for WRs he had to bring back JT4). At least he grabbed K.J. Osborne or maybe we have a couple more losses. And regardless of people hoping freshman will be ready to go next year, we'll unfortunatley have to rely heavily on the portal again to fill in where recruiting hasn't done the job.

Overall the portal was a very good thing for us.

We picked up immediate contributors in Osborne and Headly and caught a glimpse of what Bolden will be for us...a baller.

Now we are hearing Phillips is fully healthy and ready to ball out. The good thing is three of those four guys are going to give us multiple years of help.

I have ZERO problems with exploring it again for guys who can play but are just in a wrong place-wrong time situation. One year rentals would be ok on a case to case basis but guys who can help us for two or even three years are definitely out there.

Same. Just use it in the right places that have immediate needs oline mainly. I know Everyone wants to write our qbs off but just to remind everyone joe burrow didn’t exactly light it up his first season at LSU but when they changed the offensive system he went bonkers. That same thing can happen here. Even the oline will improve with a better scheme.

I think it was obvious CMR was not well and burned out and was a main contributing factor in him leaving. I also think he got an ultimatum to make changes to his staff - namely at QB coach - that also contributed to his decision

As far as Manny is concerned, I think he believed he was at a point in his career that an opportunity for a HC job came up - Temple - that would be good for his resume'. When CMR decided to retire, which no one saw coming including Manny, the opportunity to be the HC at the U was to good to pass up regardless of the situation with the roster.

Oklahoma has 2 heisman QB's and a heisman semi-finalist in the last 3 years. All 3 were transfers. Additionally, talent is not the reason why we lost to FIU. Culture and coaching is, and neither can be fixed by transfer band aids.

Not sure you've noticed, but the decades have changed and we aren't a program in the same breath as Oklahoma anymore. You kind of make my point: I'm pretty sure we would have done better with Jalen Hurts, but no way was he coming here because of the lack of talent around him. Ever play the game? You telling me you take the field against a team like FIU, given the jazz and being so close (Below even a rival) that you're supposed to beat the dog **** out of, you're relying on the coaching? My guys relied on taking care of what goes on, on the field, execution, I believe they call it. None of the teams I played on, ever lost to a team like the 3 Miami did this year. That's from Junior High through College. I'm so tired hearing about talent - talent is what your record says it is.

Do we have coaching issues, yes we do. But we're talkin' talent now.

And the portal may continue to be a factor regardless of the number of HS recruits gotten in a certain class. It's the nature of the beast these days. Why not take advantage of it?

Not suggesting we don't but recruiting, and the type players we're recruiting is a huge issue. How did CMR, known as a Q coach end up with the guys he did, and no one better in the program? We have great athletes, not great talent - no onfield leaders this season given the seniors who played together, no one to check them when it's going bad on the field.

Majority of this team took the field last year when FIU had what...-2 yards of total offense until the 4th quarter? The CULTURE and COACHING has our talent underachieving. Its like the argument I had before with someone... we were crying to have just an ounce of a NT/DT with a pulse when Golden was here. Manny comes in and changes the scheme and suddenly it seemed like we had a pretty good DT/NT room. Obviously, things are pretty different offensively, but I neglect to believe our Offensive Line talent is worse than +100 teams nation, and weaker than +100 teams in the nation.

It is what it is. Glad we have the Portal available until we will put ourselves in position to recruit at a high level and that will come only with winning

That behind said.. we will see huge benefits next year with Hedley, Bolden and Phillipa. I believe we hit gold with these 3

Bringing in high-level transfer quarterback is night and day from plugging holes all over your roster, as the talent and depth were lacking.

The day Miami isn't reeling in guys like Tito Odenigbo or Chigozi Nnoruka to help save the day—that's the day this program is back in better shape.

I said this exact thing when people started praising coach diaz and writing articles and talking about coach diaz has revolutionized the portal, i thought it was all foolish talk than, and said the very thing, the fact that we have to go to the portal means we hurting, plus most of the portal players are just like the majority of transfer players, they're quitters. Unless you doing what osborn or Geechie Boy did, transferring to move up in competition, the rest to me are just quitters. I have no problem with guys like trevon hill and bubba bolden, they were under different circumstances.

Hedley was a recruit not a portal transfer. He was recruited 1st by Hartley.

New day and age with the transfer portal. Literally everyone is using it. 3 of the 4 staring qbs in the college football playoff were acquired through the portal

Read the post, it revealed the state of OUR program; I'll assume you didn't see the article title either (The 'portal Jackpot' didn't exactly return us to relevance, it just showed even with it, how far away from relevance the program has fallen):

Nailed it.
