Look to the Transfer Portal: Discussion thread

I know ppl won’t like it but cfb needs to peel off the band aid and fully monetize the portal in terms of entertainment.

Basically mimic the nfl free agency in terms of portal signings and team movements. It’s happening already - might as well establish equitable rules and report on portal drama for entertainment purposes.

Isn't that already happening? (like you said)

Yea I meant more the making $ part of it. Adam Schefter types reporting on which teams are involved and what the players camps are saying.

You’re right in that it’s happening but I feel like they could make a heck of a lot of more money if they formalize the ā€œfree agencyā€ process and stick it up on espn/cbs/fox for everyone to follow.

I can imagine a LeBron type special (Miami heat move) for an Archie Manning type where everyone makes a boatload of $ because the cfb world will want to eat up the manufactured drama.

We are in an interesting spot now with the Portal. Mario has built this roster such that we have loaded rooms. So now he has to be careful about who he goes after in order to not cause disruption. Of course the goal is to always get better. But the old saying "a bird in hand is worth more then two in the bush" is also so true. When you think about the RB room, likely Lyle leaves but I bet Fletch returns. So do you pursue Smothers knowing you might **** someone off? It is an interesting problem to solve.

Last year their defense lost some really good talent. Bishop FItzgerald went to USCw and was first team All american multiple places like AP, Brandon Cisse getting NFL buzz went USCw, Devon Boykins at #1 Indiana, Tamarcus Cooley at LSU..

Whole DB core raided and now the offense might lose its biggest stars.. Not sure whats going on with NCST NIL or their commitment, they stuck with mediocre coach and now seem relegated to farm team, ACC as a whole last year lost a TON of talent and the drain is not a good look as even on signing day Clemson didnt even sign a 5 star.. Think we signed the only 5 star in entire conference.. Whole conference is on brink of farm league status..

The word from SC fans on this kid is:

- Starter from last year, albeit a rotational guy
- Looked great against mid to bad teams
- a bit of a tweener b/c he's not stout against the run (not a true DT).
- former bball player, great athlete, great frame
- true position is SSDE

College football doesn’t need anymore ā€œbut look how much $$$ we could make!ā€ Involved in this sport. It’s ruined enough as it is.

Also **** ESPN/Fox/Disney idgaf if they make more $$$ or not.

KEEP that in the NFL.

Excluding the benefit Miami gets from it, the transfer portal is one of the most damaging aspects to this sport. Especially when you let greedy handlers/agents/parents make the moves for you (which most of these kids do)

I hate the idea of a CBA but at this point it might be necessary. This Wild West is only going to get worse. This sport needs to be revived and not just for the big dogs.

Adding him and Jayce would give our offense an explosive element that completes it as an all around O. If we really want to start putting teams away next year, these types solidify that.

Money is always the issue. As neither of them would be #1 here, our value/need for them is unlikely to make us their top offer.

I don’t like it either but it’s happening and unfortunately the lack of rules is letting handlers/agents/parents take advantage of the young men.

Since the can is already open create a CBA with established rules and known dates. Establish rules to protect the players and monetize it in a way that the players ultimately benefit from it.

I wish we could go back to some version of fair amateurism but that’s not coming back (not that it ever existed if we’re honest).
